If you’re in the market for an electric vehicle (EV), charging time is probably one of the most important factors you’re considering. After all, who wants to spend their afternoon at a busy charging station? The good news is that Car and Driver decided to take the guesswork out of charging the 2022 Lucid Air Dream, stating, “If EV buyers are seeking engineering excellence, demand should be high, as the Air shoots to the front of the pack in terms of power, range, and charging speed.”

How fast does the Lucid Air Dream charge?

According to Car and Driver, the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance averaged 135 kilowatts during its DC fast-charge test. Additionally, when plugged into a 350-kW Electrify America charging station, the luxury electric sedan could recharge its 118.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack from 10 to 90% in only 46 minutes.

You may be thinking, “Does the Lucid Air Dream charge faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid?” The short answer is yes. Car and Driver reports that the 2022 Lucid Air Dream’s top charging rate of 297 kilowatts is 47 kilowatts higher than what the Tesla Model S Plaid accepted. Its average charging rate is 10 kilowatts higher than its Tesla competition, too.

How Long Does It Take to Charge a Tesla?

A Tesla Model S Plaid had an average rate of 125 kilowatts and held its peak rate of 250 kilowatts for almost 5 minutes. It took approximately 38 minutes for the Tesla Plaid to get a 90% state of charge. Keep in mind, the battery holds about 19% less energy compared to the Lucid Air Dream. However, Tesla says a 15-minute charge should be enough for about 187 miles of range if you start at a low state-of-charge.

Is the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Right for Me?

Car and Driver states, “With up to 520 miles of EPA-estimated all-electric range and as much as 1,111 horsepower, the 2022 Lucid Air aspires to be much more than a mere Tesla rip-off.” The Lucid Air Dream may even be the new EV for you if you’re interested in driving a vehicle from an up-and-coming automaker.

These vehicles don’t just charge fast, either. They are also well-appointed with features. However, it will cost you. Both the Dream Edition Performance and the Dream Edition Range models have a starting price of $170,500. Fortunately, if you don’t have that type of cash lying around, a few lower-priced models will debut by the end of 2022– so stay tuned!
