The 2022 Kia Sorento is one of the worst deals on a new car right now. The ongoing microchip crisis and supply chain disruptions mean that there aren’t as many SUVs or other vehicles as usual. And that means that car dealers are charging way over MSRP for new and used SUVs, trucks, and cars – and people are paying it. Still, the 2022 Kia Sorento is going for more than almost any other vehicle out there right now. It’s tied with its big sibling, the 2022 Kia Telluride. Even with the 2022 Kia Sorento cost being so high right now, is it worth buying?

The 2022 Kia Sorento S is a step up from the LX, and it costs $33,465. The 2022 Kia Sorento EX (for $36,565), ups the engine to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. 2022 Kia Sorento SX costs $41,165.

This includes everything from the 2022 Kia Sorento SX, plus power-folding mirrors, a digital instrument panel, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The Kia Sorento SX Prestige also gives you a 12-speaker Bose sound system and front parking sensors.

How much over MSRP is the Sorento going for?

The 2022 Kia Sorento is currently going for 19% over MSRP. While the price range for the 2022 Kia Sorento is $29,490 to $47,890, depending on which trim options and packages you add on, people are paying way over that. Consumer Reports used the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid S FWD as an example of how much over MSRP people are paying. This 2022 Kia Sorento price is $33,990. Yet the average that people are spending on the 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid S FWD is $40,435. That means that the average 2022 Kia Sorento is going for $6,445 over MSRP.

Is a Kia Sorento really worth buying?

The 2022 Kia Sorento is tied with first place for Consumer Reports’ Worst Deals on New Cars. It’s tied with the 2022 Kia Telluride. Both Kia three-row SUVs are going for 19% over MSRP. This is just one percentage point over the 2022 Chevy Blazer, 2022 Hyundai Accent, 2022 Hyundai Venue, 2022 Kia Carnival, 2022 Kia K5, 2022 Kia Rio, 2022 Kia Seltos. As you can see, there are an awful lot of cars and SUVs that are selling way above their MSRP.

Kias are clearly hot sellers right now, even in this market. So is the Kia Sorento worth buying? One of the reasons it may be one of the worst deals is because it has a cheaper starting price than many other three-row SUVs. In fact, only three of the top ten worst deals right now start at over $30,000. So while 19% may be a whole lot over MSRP to pay, it could still be less than an SUV that starts at $40,000 or $50,000.

If you know you want a 2022 Kia Sorento, and you need a new SUV right now, it may not be a bad idea to buy the 2022 Kia Sorento despite its worst deal status. Just make sure you do your research and consider the SUV’s depreciation down the road, and how much that could impact you. Then, even if you end up overpaying for your Sorento, you’ll go into it knowing what you’re doing.
