The 2022 Jeep Wrangler Willys Xtreme Recon will have 35-inch tires. At the 2021 Chicago Auto Show, Jeep announced its Xtreme Recon Package for the Wrangler Rubicon. According to MotorTrend, during the 2021 Detroit 4Fest, Jeep announced the Xtreme Recon package is coming to the Wrangler Willys trim. The Willys trim level of Jeep Wrangler is well known for its offroad prowess, as well as its retro styling. The “Willys and Willys Sport have a timeless look that inspires adventure”, according to Jeep. The most important new feature coming to the Wrangler Willys thanks to the Recon package? 35-inch tires, making it one of the most capable offroading trim levels in the Wrangler arsenal.

The 35-inch tires are certainly the highlight, but what else does this package bring to the Jeep Wrangler Willys? The Xtreme Recon package includes a 1.5-inch factory suspension lift with specifically tuned shocks, 17×8-inch Beadlock capable wheels, a rear swing gate reinforcement, and a low 4.56:1 axle ratio.

The 1.5-inch lift gives the model a small but useful amount of increased ground clearance. The tuned shocks and Beadlock capable wheels give it that much more improvement for offroad driving. The swing gate reinforcement gives it more power to hold up that massive 35-inch tire on the rear. The Xtreme Recon package gives the Willys trim level more capability, especially offroad. It’ll be a go-to selection for anyone looking to drive through the mud with their brand new Jeep Wrangler.

35-inch tires

In the same vein as the Ford Bronco Sasquatch package, the tire gives it the biggest boost. Straight from the factory, a Jeep Wrangler Willys with the Xtreme Recon package will have 35-inch BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires measuring LT315/70R17. The standard tires on the Willys trim level Wrangler are Firestone Destination LT255/75/R17, for comparison.

The larger tires alone add two inches of ground clearance to the Wrangler Willys. That’s an excellent amount for anyone looking to spend time away from the road. The Wrangler Willys with the Xtreme Recon package offers a 47.4-degree approach angle, 40.4-degree departure angle, and a 26.7-degree breakover angle. With everything added, ground clearance ends up getting a boost up to 12.9-inches total.

How much does the Xtreme Recon package cost?

The Xtreme Recon package will add $3,995 to the price tag of the Jeep Wrangler Willys. The main caveat with the addition of the package is that it is unavailable on the cheaper two-door model. The four-door Willys Unlimited model with the 3.6-liter eTorque mild-hybrid V6 engine is seemingly the only version that can add the Xtreme Recon package. This means the cheapest version of the vehicle including this package costs $40,930.

If you’re interested in one of these Wrangler Willys Xtreme Recons, you’ll be able to begin ordering yours in October 2021, with production beginning this December. With the proper reception from customers and critics, we could see these 35-inch tires move further into the Wrangler lineup. If the larger tires became an available option throughout, it would be a welcomed upgrade to any version of the Wrangler. Especially for those who want to go offroading, the increased ground clearance and larger all-terrain tires make a world of difference.
