The American full-size luxury SUV market is small
For the past two decades, the only names in America’s full-size luxury SUV market are the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer had been gone from the market for several years with the Navigator, and Escalade appeared. Today, we finally see the return of the Grand Wagoneer, giving us an actual American luxury battle in this vehicle class.
How luxurious is the interior of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer?
If you’re looking for a vehicle that makes you smile when you sit inside, the Grand Wagoneer will do just that. AutoGuide.com shares their experience with this SUV with admiration for the subtle ambient lighting, raised leather starter button, real-metal shifter knob, and leather quilting for the seats. Tons of storage areas fill this cabin with places to put drinks, cell phones, laptops, snacks, and books. The center console even has a chiller to keep your drinks cold.
How luxurious is the cabin of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade?
There’s an immediate “wow” factor when you open the doors to the Escalade. The massive 38-inch OLED screen is impressive and impossible to miss. You’ll see an array of black leather in the Escalade, trimmed with metals that stand out and comfort elements to keep you happy. The storage solutions of the Escalade are more useful than that of the Jeep, especially since the center console in the Cadillac has a shelf to keep things separated and organized.
Putting numbers to the cargo area of these full-size SUVs
Rear cargo area
Jeep 27.4 cubic feet
Cadillac 25.5 cubic feet
With both rear rows folded down
Jeep 94.2 cubic feet
Cadillac 109.1 cubic feet
Jeep 8,260 pounds
Cadillac 7,700 pounds
The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is ahead of the Cadillac Escalade when it comes to interior quality. The materials are better, the features are sharper, and the style is better in the Jeep.
Which full-size SUV has better technology?
We’ve got a real fight on our hands if we’re talking about the screens offered in these two SUVs. The Grand Wagoneer gives you seven screens measuring a total of 45 inches. The Uconnect 5 infotainment system operates these screens, giving you an impressive package of technology and connectivity.
Moving to the Escalade, we see the 38-inch curved OLED screen with three separate sections built into it. There are screens for the rear passengers, similar to what the Jeep offers, but you’ll notice one glaring omission in this SUV, no screen for the front passenger. The Grand Wagoneer has a screen for the front passenger as well as the rear passengers.
Once again, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer outperforms the Cadillac Escalade when you’re considering the technology setup. Front passengers in the Caddy are stuck looking at their phones and wondering why the driver didn’t buy the Jeep.
Should you buy the Jeep Grand Wagoner or the Cadillac Escalade?
If you’re going to stay in the base price range, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade offers better value for your money. Is it worth an extra $12,000 to have more finishes and a screen for the passenger? On the other hand, if you’re willing to reach toward the top levels of luxury and comfort for these SUVs, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a better option.
Sorry Escalade, the Grand Wagoneer has just knocked you out of the ring.
