Since its introduction in 2007, the Jeep Compass has been a solid option for buyers looking for a sensible compact SUV. Unlike similar options in Jeep’s lineup, the Compass had a slow start, partially because it was trying to pull in non-Jeep owners by targeting the typical street car buyer over the typical Jeep offroad adventurer.

After its introduction, the Compass quickly climbed its way to success, with 2011 introducing a Jeep “Trail Rated” badge, showing that this SUV has made its way into the offroad capable market. That climb continues today with the 2022 Jeep Compass featuring a stark redesign for this crossover SUV. What kind of gains are we seeing out of the 2022 Jeep Compass?

In July of 2021, the Jeep Compass redesign was unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show, and since the start of 2022, sales have steadily risen. According to Automotive News, sales of the Compass for the 2nd quarter of 2022 increased 54% over the first quarter’s sales numbers. This seats the total sales for the 2022 Compass at around 50,000 units sold thus far for the model year. While this price increase is precisely what Jeep needed after a slow start to the Compass, the increase in sales has not been simply coincidental.

The 2022 Jeep Compass is primarily the same as the previous model year but with an extensively redesigned interior space that makes the SUV a much better place to be while driving.

Next up for the Compass

According to goodcarbadcar.net, the Jeep Compass has done well overall to bounce back and take its spot in the crossover SUV market. However, they are still well behind competitors in the same class, falling to the 12th spot when it comes to small SUVs in sales numbers. With no exterior redesign in sight for the Jeep Compass, which aims to keep its customer base by supporting the Jeep design language similar to other vehicles in the lineup, the next step for the Compass has to be delivering on a hybrid or EV model.

Wrangler paving the way for the 2022 Jeep Compass

With the Jeep Wrangler 4ex holding the current title as the top-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle for 2022, the Compass needs to look at its big brother for help with successful electrification. The Wrangler 4ex changed the game by offering a full-size offroad-capable SUV that is a Jeep through and through, but also giving customers the efficiency of a plug-in hybrid.

According to Jeep, what is even more impressive is the plug-in hybrid can travel up to 21 miles with electric power only. With the Compass competing for the small SUV market, it is no question the Compass would benefit from a full or at least partial hybrid solution.

While a Compass 4ex is in the works overseas for Europe, Only the future will tell if the Compass will adapt to become the next best crossover small SUV for the American market or if Jeep will keep this SUV as a gas-only vehicle, but for now, the Compass is experiencing a refreshing rise in sales.
