Don’t be so quick to pass on the Honda Ridgeline. This mid-size truck gets a lot of love from critics but isn’t favored by drivers. However, you may not know about the tremendous amount of value that the 2022 Honda Ridgeline has to offer.

Yes, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline has plenty of advantages and capability to offer as a comfortable and versatile mid-size truck option. According to Edmunds, the Ridgeline defeats rivals as the option with the most value.

The Ridgeline is ranked ahead of the Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator on the list of the best mid-size trucks for getting the most based on what you pay for. Outranking the dependable Tacoma and the rugged Gladiator is impressive.

Like other trucks, the Ridgeline is strong and durable. However, it’s also more refined. Because it has a unibody frame instead of a traditional body-on-frame build, it has a smoother ride and more responsive handling.

Which Honda Ridgeline trim is best?

Regarding value, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline Sport is the best option. It’s the base model and has an MSRP of $38.140. We understand that the starting price is a little shocking, but plenty of things such as standard all-wheel drive make it worth buying.

It comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that cranks out 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.2 seconds, which is fast for a mid-size truck.

The nine-speed automatic transmission is smooth and powerful. Plus, the Ridgeline has the most comfortable ride in the class, with supportive seats and a quiet cabin. The truck is sporty and engaging, with responsive handling and a confident feel around curves.

Starting with the Sport provides 18-inch alloy wheels, a class III trailer hitch with a seven-pin connector, lighting in the bed, LED headlights, and keyless entry

The interior features an 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless ignition, a seven-speaker sound system, automatic tri-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and forward collision mitigation.

Plus, it has an in-bed trunk that can be used as a cooler and the dual-action tailgate. It swings open to the side, making it easier to access cargo or load heavier items.

Reasons to avoid the Ridgeline

While the 2022 Honda Ridgeline offers plenty of value, it’s not perfect. It can only tow up to 5,000 lbs, which is respectable, but rivals like the Chevy Colorado can tow up to 7,700 lbs. The Ridgeline can carry a payload of up to 1,530 lbs, though.

The Ridgeline could have a better fuel economy. It only gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway. The Jeep Gladiator gets up to 30 mpg on the highway.

Also, the Ridgeline lacks low-range gearing for off-roading and only has a ground clearance of 7.2-inches. It can handle light off-roading challenges and slippery conditions but can’t keep up with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

The Ridgeline provides plenty of standard power, the most comfortable ride, sporty handling, and plenty of practical versatility. It’s a well-rounded, value-packed option.
