Civic vs. CR-V: Performance

On the performance front, the standard 2022 Honda Civic model offers two powertrain options: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (158 hp) and a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (180 hp). Also, the sporty Civic Si features another variant of the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which generates 200 hp. In comparison, the 2022 Honda CR-V offers two powertrain options: a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine (190 hp) and a hybrid (212 hp). 

Unlike the Civic, the CR-V offers a traction-enhancing all-wheel drive system. Also, while the Civic is not rated for towing, the CR-V can tow up to 1,500 pounds. 

The Civic has quicker acceleration than the CR-V, though. The standard Civic model has a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds, and the Civic Si achieves the sprint in just 6.8 seconds. In comparison, the 0-60 mph acceleration time for the CR-V is 7.8 seconds for the gas-powered model and 7.5 seconds for the CR-V Hybrid. Honda also offers a more powerful and quicker Civic Type R model, but it’s not available for the 2022 model year. You can either get the 2021 version or wait for the 2023 model year.

Another performance advantage of the Civic is its maneuverability. It can drive through curves and around corners more easily than the CR-V.

Civic vs. CR-V: Fuel economy

For efficiency, the Civic has a gas mileage of up to 36 combined mpg. In comparison, the CR-V has an estimated fuel economy of up to 30 combined mpg for the gas-powered model and 38 combined mpg for the CR-V Hybrid. 

Civic vs. CR-V: Safety

The Civic is safer than the CR-V. It earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award, which is the highest possible IIHS rating. In comparison, the CR-V received the second-tier IIHS Top Safety Pick award.

Civic vs. CR-V: Passenger and cargo space

The CR-V is bigger than the Civic, resulting in more interior space. It has a total passenger volume of 105.9 cu-ft and a maximum cargo capacity of 75.8 cu-ft. In comparison, the Civic has a total passenger volume of 99.0 cu-ft. For storage space, the Civic has a maximum cargo capacity of 14.8 cu-ft for the sedan version and 24.5 cu-ft for the hatchback version.

Civic vs. CR-V: Interior features and technologies

The CR-V has the advantage for interior features and technologies. Unlike the Civic, the CR-V offers woodgrain interior trim, a seat memory function, and a hands-free power liftgate.

Civic vs. CR-V: Warranty coverage and reliability

For warranty coverage, both the Civic and CR-V have the backing of a 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty. However, the CR-V is slightly more reliable than the CR-V. It earned a J.D. Power reliability rating of 84/100, compared to 82/100 for the CR-V.

Civic vs. CR-V: Price

Which Honda vehicle costs more: the 2022 Civic or the 2022 CR-V? The starting price of the 2022 Civic ranges from $22,350 MSRP for the Civic Sedan LX trim up to $29,850 MSRP for the Civic Hatchback Sport Touring trim. In comparison, the starting price of the 2022 CR-V ranges from $26,400 MSRP for the LX trim up to $37,400 MSRP for the Touring Hybrid trim.
