While Honda hasn’t yet stated the price information for the 2023 Civic Type R, you can expect it to be slightly higher than the 2021 Civic Type R. The 2021 Civic Type R starts at $37,895 MSRP. For the 2023 Civic Type R, it will probably be around $40,000.
2023 Civic Type R: A more powerful turbocharged engine
Honda touts the redesigned model as the best performing Civic Type R ever. This elevated performance comes courtesy of a new iteration of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, as detailed by Car and Driver. For the 2021 Civic Type R, the output of the turbo engine is 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The output of the 2023 Civic R will be even higher.
The 2023 Civic R will still offer a manual transmission. However, for those that can’t drive stick, a dual-clutch automatic transmission will probably be available as well.
New design for the 2023 Civic Type R
We got a closer look when the 2023 Civic Type R made its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Before then, Honda released some photos of the redesigned Civic Type wrapped in camouflage, which did little to hide the prominent rear wing. Like the outgoing model, it will only be available in a hatchback model.
The 2023 Civic Type R appears to have a sportier look compared to the 2021 Civic Type R. Additionally, the 2023 Civic Type R features 20-inch wheels with high-performance tires.
Compared to the 2021 Civic Type R, the 2023 Civic R will have a more minimalist interior. However, you can still expect to see some racy design elements, such as faux carbon-fiber trim and red accents.
2023 Civic Type R technology features
Like the standard 2022 Civic, the 2023 Civic Type R will have climate controls and a digital gauge cluster situated above the center console. The 2023 Civic Type R will also have Honda’s next-generation infotainment system, which includes a 9-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Additional technologies include Wi-Fi capabilities, a wireless smartphone charger, and a full suite of driving assistance features.
