Honda produces some of the best SUVs on the market. The unpopular Honda HR-V is sold in Europe and America. In Asia, Honda offers the BR-V or “Bold Runabout Vehicle”. The tiny new 2022 Honda BR-V subcompact crossover just debuted with a third row of seats.

Honda is no stranger to the subcompact car and subcompact SUV vehicle class. The Japanese automaker has designed and produced plenty of popular small vehicles like the Honda Fit. Honda knows how to fit as much value as possible into some of the smallest vehicles on the market, but how small is too small?

The Honda HR-V is far from the most popular subcompact SUV. It trails way behind popular models like the Hyundai Kona and Mazda CX-30 in rankings. Its lack of power and ride quality are some of its weak points.

The Honda BR-V is very similar to the HR-V. Now, according to Motor1, the Honda BR-V subcompact crossover is getting a third row of seats. This new third row will make the BR-V one of the few seven-seater subcompact SUVs in existence. Does packing more seats into the tiny crossover make it any better?

How big is the Honda BR-V subcompact crossover?

The Honda HR-V is about 14ft long and 5ft wide. It has a height that is slightly over 5ft. If the Honda BR-V has the same dimensions, it will be very similar to the Toyota Corolla Cross. The big difference is that the Corolla Cross is a five-seater despite being almost the same size as the BR-V.

The Subaru Crosstrek is another subcompact crossover vehicle that only seats five. It is just slightly larger than the Honda HR-V. Few details were released about the Honda BR-V subcompact crossover, but it’s hard to imagine it being successful in markets other than Asia if it isn’t any larger for the 2022 model year.

Will anyone buy the Honda BR-V subcompact crossover?

The important thing to remember about the Honda BR-V is that it is sold in markets other than Europe and the United States of America. The BR-V is sold in Asian countries like India as well as other countries such as South Africa. India has a population of over 1.3 billion people. The population of the United States is closer to 333 million people, less than a third of India’s population. We have much different concepts of interior space.

The tiny Honda BR-V subcompact crossover may not sell well in the United States, but in countries where space is often a luxury enjoyed by the rich, the BR-V is a great option. Some may look at the crossover as cramped, while drivers in other countries look at its new row of seats as a way to shuttle more friends and family members around for an affordable price.

The Honda BR-V and HR-V aren’t for everyone. Many drivers desire more space, power, and utility out of their vehicles. The Honda subcompact crossover will be a hit for some and repulsive for others who think it’s entirely too small for seven seats.
