The 2022 GMC Hummer EV is almost here, and there are so many questions surrounding its arrival. Most people can’t wait to see how the Hummer comes back, especially as an electric vehicle. How much HP does the 2022 GMC Hummer EV have?

According to Car and Driver, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV’s creator, Al Oppenheiser, knew that any electric vehicle that was going to be competitive with pickup trucks would have to be pretty incredible. After all, those used to driving a hearty and tough vehicle like a truck wouldn’t easily come to the side of an electric vehicle without it being pretty special.

To battle against large pickup trucks with V8 engines, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will have plenty of horse power. 1,000-hp, to be exact. It will have a three-motor 4WD system and be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just three seconds. That’s no easy feat for an electric truck the size of the 2022 Hummer.

In addition, the 2022 Hummer will have 11,500 lb-ft of torque. No, that’s not a typo. Electric torque is different from mechanical torque. In an electric vehicle like the Hummer, that 1,150 comes from the torque being applied to the tires.

As far as range, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV should get 350 miles on a full charge, which is pretty competitive with other large electric vehicles.

How much will the GMC Hummer EV cost?

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV costs $112,595. Okay, so that isn’t a price tag that’s exactly equivalent to those on most picup trucks, even really big, really nice ones. Still, there are plenty of people willing to pay over $100,000 for an electric Hummer. In fact, reservations for the 2022 Hummer are already full.

Car and Driver notes that the reservations being full isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If you don’t need 1,000-hp, you might be content to wait for the 830-hp version also coming out next year. And in 2023 there will be a wider range of Hummers available, like a lower-spec version and an SUV.

Where will the 2022 Hummer be built?

GMC is building the 2022 Hummer in Michigan. The Hummer will be built in its Factory ZERO in Detroit and Hamtramch. The Factory ZERO is currently being redone to allow it to build a wider range of GMC electric vehicles, with the new Hummer being the first.

After the 2022 GMC Hummer EV, the next few Hummer models will also be built at Factory ZERO, formerly known as the Hamtramck Assembly. This will allow GMC to expand its offering of electric vehicles, the way many car manufacturers are right now.

Even if you missed the opportunity to get one of the first rounds of the 2022 Hummer EV, there are more to come. There’s an upside to having waited, in the form of more options. If you’re one of the pickup truck owners that’s thinking about going to an electric truck, you’ll also have the opportunity to see them in action, and be able to form an opinion about them. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV promises to revolutionize the electric vehicle as well as the pickup truck. The ability of GMC to put out an electric vehicle that will make pickup drivers convert to electric is no easy feat, but the outcome is impressive.
