The Ford Maverick’s design is so unique that some consumers had to question whether the vehicle was a truck or not. It’s got a truck bed and resembles other Blue Oval trucks, but its dimensions are much more car and SUV-like. Whether you decide that the Maverick is the world’s strangest small SUV or a truck hit by a shrink ray, there’s no denying that this thing is different from competitors.

The Maverick is nearly the sole occupant of its own novel vehicle segment alongside the Hyundai Santa Cruz. Can we call it a subcompact truck? Its classification matters little when considering its specs and the value it provides for its price. Its fuel economy sparked an interest in city dwellers. According to The Drive, the Maverick’s length could be an issue when looking for parking in a crowded city.

This may not seem like a huge deal, but the Maverick is clearly marketed to city folk. Most of the Blue Oval’s media features the Maverick showing off its utility in what appears to be a modern city. Purchasing a Maverick based on Ford’s marketing efforts only to find the small truck isn’t small enough to grab that coveted street parking could ruffle some feathers, to say the least.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is 200 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 69 inches tall. In comparison, the Ford Ranger midsize pickup truck is 211 inches long, 78 inches wide, and 71 inches tall. Is squeezing the Ford Ranger into a tight parking spot that different than parking a Maverick?

An 11-inch length difference can make parking the Maverick easier, but the Maverick is still a whopping 18 inches longer than a Toyota RAV4 compact SUV. The Ford Maverick is at least 16 inches longer than the Honda Civic. Is parking the Maverick easier than parking other pickup trucks? Sure. Is it as simple as Ford would like you to believe? Probably not.

Should you buy a 2022 Ford Maverick?

So, parking a Ford Maverick in a crowded city isn’t as easy as you may have believed. That doesn’t make the truck any less amazing in terms of pricing and fuel economy. The 2022 Ford Maverick starts at just $19,999 for the standard hybrid version. This version achieves an incredible 42 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. It may not be the easiest to park, but it sure will save you money on your commute.

Motortrend calls the Maverick the best compact truck because of its affordability, engine options, and innovative Flexbed. The Maverick may be better suited for the suburbs than the city, but it’s still an amazing small pickup.
