Since its introduction, the 2022 Ford Maverick has found great popularity among a number of buyers. And that includes the 70% of purchasers who are coming from non-truck segments. Recently, it appears that some companies are looking to the Maverick pickup truck to handle their truck needs. Terminix, a pest control company, recently purchased 90 Maverick models with some indication that it intends to buy more in the future. This shows that although this is Ford’s small truck, it is still capable of getting some work done.

The Ford brand has long been popular with businesses that require a fleet of vehicles. With how dominating the Maverick has been in the compact truck segement, it is no surprise that it is also finding some popularity. For Terminix, that means adding Maverick hybrid models to its sales fleet.

By 2023, Terminix hopes to have all of its sales fleet transitioned to hybrid vehicles. That number represents about 20% of its roughly 2,000 vehicles. Making fleet conversions is not the easiest task right now. Suppply chain issues and chip shortages have manufacturers struggling to produce enough automobiles to meet demand. Still, Terminix has placed an order for 90 2022 Maverick trucks. And that will help to make its sales operations more efficient.

Although currently, Terminix is only converting its sales fleet, according to Ford Authority, there are plans to purchase Maverick trucks to add to the field team. The plan is to have most of these conversions complete by 2024.

Terminix has already receieved some of its Maverick orders, but more will be arriving in Q2 of 2022. The company has discussed utilizing EV trucks, but apparently those can prove difficult to upfit for specific work needs. Maybe as EV trucks become more common, this will become less of an issue.

Can the Ford Maverick be a work truck?

Despite its status as a compact pickup truck, the 2022 Maverick does have legitimate capability as a work truck. Paired with its standard hybrid powertrain, it is ideal for fleet use thanks to its improved efficiency. For those who need a work truck that can tow, the Maverick can come equipped for that. When properly configured, the new Ford Maverick has the ability to tow up to 4,000 pounds.

Antoher factor that goes into making the 2022 Maverick a good work vehicle is its price. This pickup truck has a starting MSRP of right around $20,000. And that means it has decent affordability, especially when compared to other new trucks. Perhaps the biggest downfall of this vehicle is its availability. Ford had to place a temporary pause in orders to enable it to keep up with demand.

In the future, we do hope to see more Maverick compact trucks entering the workforce. The base model has a cheap price tag while still offering the utility of a pickup. And that makes it ideal for fulfilling a variety of automotive roles. That is reflected in the fact that Terminix is planning to add even more models to its fleet.
