It’s been a tough year to try to buy a pickup truck. The chip shortage has caused car manufacturers to struggle to produce the number of trucks they usually do. Supply chain disruptions have also contributed to pickup trucks and other vehicles not being built and delivered the way they normally would. All of this has led to the price of new and used pickup trucks (and other vehicles) to skyrocket, with no sign of coming down. The 2022 Ford Maverick is one of those trucks, according to Consumer Reports. It was one of the cheapest pickup trucks that you could buy, but now the price is so high, you just might want to hold off on buying one for awhile.

How much does the 2022 Ford Maverick cost?

The base model of the 2022 Ford Maverick is the XL, and its MSRP is $19,995. This comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s matched to a hybrid system. The 2022 Ford Maverick makes 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. You can also upgrade to the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. This is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

You can also upgrade your 2022 Ford Maverick. The 2022 Ford Maverick XLT starts at $23,775. The 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat starts at $26,985. That means that even if you select the most expensive Maverick pickup truck, youur starting MSRP is still under $30,000.

How much over MSRP is the 2022 Maverick going for?

The 2022 Ford Maverick is currently selling for an average of 18% over MSRP. Consumer Reports used the average MSRP for the 2022 Ford Maverick XLT SuperCrew AWD. This is $22,280. The average spent over MSRP on this pickup truck is $3,981, and the average transaction price is $22,261.

This is enough to earn it third place, tying with the 2022 Chevy Blazer, as well as the 2022 Hyundai Accent, 2022 Hyundai Venue, 2022 Kia Carnival, 2022 Kia K5, 2022 Kia Rio, 2022 Kia Seltos. As you can see, there are an awful lot of cars and SUVs that are selling way above their MSRP.

The Maverick is selling for so much more than MSRP because it’s a solid pickup truck

It’s worth noting that the 2022 Ford Maverick is the only pickup truck that’s on the list of the Worst Deals on New Cars list. It’s also, along with the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer, the only vehicle that isn’t a Kia or Hyundai. This speaks to its popularity and price point, and illustrates how many people see the 2022 Ford Maverick as a truck worth investing in.

One of the reasons that the 2022 Ford Maverick may be selling at such a high rate over its MSRP is that its starting price is lower than many other pickup trucks. Out of 10 vehicles on the Worst Deals on New Cars list, only three of them are over $30,000.

If you want a 2022 Ford Maverick despite its current high average selling price, do your research and try to get the best deal that you can. Even though it may be one of the cheapest pickup trucks you can buy, it’s also one of the worst deals right now, and that could affect your depreciation down the road. Still, if it’s in your budget and you know it’s the right truck for you, it just might be worth it to you to buy it anyway.
