As electric vehicles become more and more popular, it makes sense that Americans are interested in the potential of an EV pickup truck. For some time, trucks have been the preferred method of transportation for many drivers in the United States. Whether it be a mid-size truck, a full-size truck, or some kind of lifted pickup, there’s no denying that we enjoy big and powerful vehicles. But, Ford is hoping to make the experience more efficient with the introduction of the 2022 F-150 Lightning EV. A full-size Ford truck that comes with an electric powertrain.

Is the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning a practical truck?

The F-150 Lightning is an EV truck that is focused on practicality. From offering legitimate utility to being able to power your house when needed, this is an EV that may be able to win over rural buyers who might be skeptical of electric cars.

In terms of being a work truck, the 2022 F-150 Lightning actually excels. Its stow-away shifter will allow you to turn this pickup’s interior into a workspace while you’re on the job site or you need a place to sign contracts. Additionally, Ford has ensured the tailgate of this truck can take full advantage of the many power outlets featured throughout.

Two concealed clamp pockets mean that you can clamp wood and tools to the tailgate. Plus, there are a variety of measurement labels to help you measure twice and cut once.

How expensive is the Ford Lightning?

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has an MSRP of $39,947. It also has the potential to benefit from federal tax credits. That said, it is likely that most buyers will pay much more for this full-size truck. According to Car and Driver, the best Ford Lightning may be the XLT trim.

This trim can come equipped with an Extended-Range battery pack as well as a range of different creature comforts. To get the stronger battery, expect to pay about $10,000 extra. But, included with this package are things like the power generator, heated seating, and adaptive cruise control.

All of these things help to make the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning a more attractive vehicle. Even if it means having to spend over the base price.

Does Ford have an EV truck?

While the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is not quite available yet, it is on the way. In fact, due to demand being so high, you cannot currently order this truck. So if you are interested, it is likely best to contact your local Ford dealership in order to learn how you may be able to purchase one.

The Ford Maverick has been experiencing a similar problem. And because of supply chain constraints, it is unclear when the 2022 F-150 Lightning will become widely available. Hopefully, as those issues are sorted out, the 2022 Lightning can find success in rural areas and beyond. Proving that EVs do not have to be limited to city life, but can actually handle tough situations where actual utility is needed.
