Electric pick up trucks are becoming all the rage. As car manufacturers realize that there is a huge demand for electric vehicles, there are more and more options coming onto the market all the time. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is one of those vehicles and it has been a huge hit. It combines the function and classic good looks of a traditional pick up truck with the cutting edge technology and fuel efficiency of an electric vehicle. Still, the Ford Lightning isn’t for everyone. If you have a large family, you may not be able to fit into the Lightning – and that’s a huge disappointment.

The 2022 Ford Lightning can seat up to 5 passengers

The 2022 Ford Lightning can hold up to five passengers, according to Ford. For most families, that will be more than enough. Yet if you have a larger family, five seats just won’t cut it. So what can you do if you have four or more kids or another need to hold six or more passengers? Unfortunately, you’ll have to look at another electric pickup truck.

Right now there isn’t a single electric pickup truck they can accommodate six passengers. However, the Tesla Cybertruck is on its way and it’s supposed to be able to hold six passengers. The Tesla Cybertruck is set for production late in 2023, so if you want an electric pickup truck with a lot of passenger space, you’ll have to wait.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is family-friendly

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning price starts at $39,974. This is for the Ford Lightning Pro, which is the base model electric Ford truck. It comes with a 98 kW battery, can go 230 miles on a single charge, and has Ford’s suite of safety features known as Co-Pilot360. There’s also an extended range battery available, which can take the Lightning up to 300 miles on a single charge. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro also has a 12-inch touchscreen.

The next step up is the Ford Lightning XLT and it’s even more family-friendly. It adds on front lighting, a 360-degree camera, and an interior work surface which can double as a coloring or homework space for younger kids. The XLT price starts at $52,974.There’s also the option for an extended range battery which makes the price $72,474.

You might have to wait for the Lightning

The 2022 Ford Lightning is a great electric pickup truck for a family. If your family is small enough to fit inside of one, you may be thinking the Lightning offers everything you need in a pickup truck with the benefits of an electric vehicle. Yet even if you want one, that doesn’t mean you can get one.

Right now, reservations for the 2022 Ford Lightning are full. In fact, reservations filled up very quickly. Ford has accepted more than 200,000 reservations. Still, it’s unclear they’ll be able to fulfill all those reservations. Currently Ford is aiming to be able to produce 160,000 Lightnings by 2024.

The 2022 Ford Lightning may be one of the most family-friendly trucks you can buy, but if you need a little extra space, it may not work for you. Still, as the market for electric vehicles expands, it’s possible that the Lightning’s passenger space will too.
