Say it isn’t so! The Ford F-150 could be dropping one of our favorite comfort features. The semiconductor shortage could be striking again as this brand new feature faces getting the ax in the 2022 Ford F-150 lineup.

The 2022 Ford F-150 may lose Max Recline seats

We really hope that the 2022 Ford F-150 doesn’t lose the Max Recline seats. These seats are part of why we rank the F-150 ahead of other trucks. Rumors from Ford Authority suggest that this feature might be dropped due to the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage.

Max Recline seats are an optional feature with the King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims. They allow the front seats to almost fold completely flat at 180 degrees, creating a comfortable place to nap.

Reportedly, no specific reason was provided for why the seats were being dropped. The semiconductor shortage seems to make the most sense because a few other options were dropped as a result.

What other Ford F-150 features are being dropped?

Some 2022 Ford F-150 models may have been assembled without a few electric modules for basic vehicle functions. They could be missing parts to control windshield wiper motors and infotainment features.

We hope this isn’t true about the windshield wiper motors. They seem pretty essential for keeping things clear during rainstorms. Plus, there was a massive Ford F-150 recall due to failing wiper motors, so we hope new trucks are being assembled with working motors.

The trucks with missing features are being held until the chip shortage can be resolved. When all the required components come in, they’re added to the trucks. Then extensive quality checks are performed before completed trucks are shipped to dealerships.

The Ford Explorer is being shipped without the chips necessary for the second-row climate controls. This is because Ford is conserving most of its chips for the most popular and profitable models, like the F-150.

Plus, putting a hold on non-necessary features allows Ford to conserve even more chips for the time being. The chips will be added to the Explorer once they become available at no cost to the owner.

Why are the Max Recline F-150 seats important?

We feel like the Max Recline seats in the 2022 Ford F-150 are vital because it’s a feature based on what people want. People were already napping in their trucks at construction sites and during long drives.

The Max Recline seats were added because Ford was listening to what people actually wanted. Current 2022 F-150 orders that include the seats will be changed to remove them.

Reportedly, customers who are taking deliveries of their trucks that are being impacted by this change will be required to sign an acknowledgment form indicating that they don’t have Max Recline seats.

This feels pretty abrupt and could upset those looking for a more comfortable place to nap. Hopefully, the computer chip shortage is improving. However, Ford CEO Jim Farley thinks it could last until next year.

Max Recline seats are too epic to lose. We will keep an eye on this story to see how it unfolds. Until then, if you already have the Max Recline Ford F-150 seats, we’re jealous. Enjoy your cozy truck naps.
