The 2022 Ford F-150 is ranked second on Consumer Reports’ list of full-sized pickup trucks, behind the 2022 Ram 1500. It has a better-than-average score of 60/100, and a road test score of 75/100. Consumer Reports notes, “The F-150’s ride is slightly less jittery than before, though still a far cry from the plush comfort the Ram 1500 delivers, and it trails the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 twins, too.”

Still, the 2022 Ford F-150 has a below-average predicted reliability rating of just a 2/5. Consumer Reports determines this predicted reliability rating by looking at how the 2021 model has fared. Unfortunately, that score is also a 2/5.

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado’s predicted reliability is even worse, at a 1/5. To find this, Consumer Reports looked at data from the 2019, 2020, and 2021 Silverado models. The reliability ratings for these models are all 1/5.

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, on the other hand, doesn’t have an overall rating from the IIHS, but it does have good ratings in the front moderate overlap and front small overlap categories. The side crash, rear crash, and roof crush tests also have good crash test ratings. However, the front small overlap, passenger side rating is only marginal.

The NHTSA gives the Silverado five stars in the overall side crash test, side-crash driver and rear passenger, as well as the side pole-crash categories. Like the F-150, the Silverado gets 4/5 stars for rollover ratings. The NHTSA didn’t rate the overall crash test rating, overall frontal-crash, frontal-crash driver, and frontal-crash passenger side.
