Buying a full-size SUV can be a challenging task. With so many models to choose from, how can buyers find the one that suits them best? Fortunately, the 2022 Ford Expedition is widely considered an excellent option. In addition, there’s one trim level that really makes it worth your while. Although the SUV is expensive, there’s one reason the 2022 Ford Expedition Platinum trim is worth the upgrade.

According to Edmunds, every version of the 2022 Ford Expedition uses the same engine. Regardless of which trim level buyers choose, they’ll find a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine under the hood. However, there are a few ways to make this engine a little more powerful. For the XL, XLT, and Limited trims, the engine makes 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. That’s where the Platinum trim comes in and makes the Expedition’s engine a lot better.

Paying for the most expensive version of the Expedition lands you with an upgraded version of the same engine. Instead of a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 with 375-hp, it turns into a 400-hp twin-turbo V6. As a result, the 2022 Ford Expedition gains speed and power with the Platinum trim. Even before considering the countless features, we think that this version of the engine makes the Expedition Platinum worth the upgrade.

Since it’s the fully-loaded version of the full-size SUV, this Expedition trim is well-equipped. Additionally, it has nearly every feature included with lower trim levels. For example, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, the trailer tow package, Ford Co-Pilot360, tri-zone automatic climate control, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, and more.

However, opting for the highest trim level enhances those features even more. Every Expedition Platinum has a satin aluminum exterior trim, upgraded interior leather, wood and leather interior trim, massaging and ventilated front seats, roof rails with crossbars, power-folding second-and third-row seats, Active noise cancellation, and BlueCruise.

BlueCruise is Ford’s semi-autonomous driving system, and Co-Pilot360 features automatic high beams, blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a lane-keeping system, and automatic emergency braking. Then, with the Limited trim and higher, the safety and driver assist equipment package expands more. Moreover, it gains full-speed adaptive cruise control and a navigation system.

How much is a 2022 Ford Expedition Platinum?

Unfortunately, the worst part about full-size SUVs is the price. Starting with the most basic version of the 2022 Ford Expedition, the XL trim, the MSRP is $55,070. As a result, jumping up the fully-loaded Platinum trim is a big step. Buying this upgraded trim costs $80,3000 MSRP without purchasing any optional equipment or packages. Unfortunately, the twin-turbo engine with added horsepower comes at a high price.

Fortunately, buyers can get a more powerful engine in more affordable trims. However, there’s only one way to do it. Although expensive, some customers may find value in the Stealth Performance package. Not only does it upgrade to 22-inch black wheels, dark trim, a sport suspension, and more, but under the hood, you’ll find an upgraded 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 making 440 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

However, this package costs $9,880 and is available starting with the Expedition Limited trim. As a result, your SUV would come to a total of $79,375, according to Ford. Although it’s cheaper than the Platinum model, it isn’t very much of a difference.

1 reason the Ford Expedition Platinum is worth the upgrade

The 2022 Ford Expedition Platinum is worth the upgrade because of the more powerful engine. Although the base version of this SUV is powerful, power grows with the Platinum trim. Adding more horsepower and torque is essential for many full-size SUV owners. That’s why the 2022 Ford Expedition Platinum is worth the higher starting price if your budget allows it.
