We’re still waiting for the 2022 Ford Expedition XL Max to arrive. It should arrive soon as the shorter model already made its debut. Plus, Expedition models are expected to arrive at dealerships early in 2022.

Spy photos have revealed the XL Max trim being tested around the city. However, the XL Max won’t be available to retail customers. It’s for fleets only. Also, the Special Service Vehicle (SSV) Max is only available for law enforcement.

The model sent to fleets, or rental companies include the 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system, Trailer Tow Prep Pack, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, and a universal garage door opener.

Each Expedition model still features the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 400 hp and 48- lb-ft of torque. The Sealth Performance Package increases these figures to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.

But look at how long the Max is! We know that the 2022 Expedition features suspension improvements, but this beast looks hefty. We’re wondering how big the Max feels on the road and how nimble it is.

What’s new for the 2022 Expedition?

We’re still waiting to learn more about the 2022 Ford Expedition Max that will be available to the general public. Typically the Max adds about $2,000 to $3,000 to each trim. The 2022 Expedition starts at $68,150.

All Expedition models have an independent rear suspension to improve the ride and handling. It’s supposed to provide a better ride than Chevy and GMC rivals with live-axle setups.

For 2022, the Expedition gained revised interior and exterior styling. The cabin gained a dashboard design similar to the layout found in the Ford F-150. The interior includes higher quality materials and updated tech.
