The 2022 Ford Expedition Still Dominates the Chevy Tahoe

With the 2022 Ford Expedition, you get a standard 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. But if you upgrade the Timberline or Stealth trims, the power is boosted to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of tor torque. Rumors suggest that a hybrid model is in the works.

We love a big SUV battle, and now the 2022 Ford Expedition is complete with mid-cycle updates to face the recently redesigned Chevy Tahoe. The Ford Expedition has been ranking higher than the 2021 Chevy Tahoe for a while, so let’s see if this trend will continue.

First, how much does the 2022 Ford Expedition cost? Unfortunately, the official price hasn’t been released. The 2021 Expedition begins at about $49,625. We can speculate that the mid-cycle updates will increase the price to about $51,000. You can get started in a 2021 Chevy Tahoe for about $49,600.

The Chevy Tahoe may be better on gas. It gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and up to 28 mpg on the highway. Official ratings for the 2022 Expedition haven’t been released, but it did get an engine upgrade.

The 2021 Expedition gets an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway. But the optional active air damn helps improve the aerodynamics to save fuel.

Is the Expedition or Tahoe stronger?

With the 2022 Ford Expedition, you get a standard 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. But if you upgrade the Timberline or Stealth trims, the power is boosted to 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Rumors suggest that a hybrid model is in the works.

The Chevy Tahoe comes with a standard 5.3-liter V8 engine with 335 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 6.2-liter V8 engine for 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Also, the 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine generates 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,300 lbs. It can carry a payload of up to 1,758 lbs. With the Max Trailering Package, the Chevy Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,927 lbs.

So, the Expedition comes with more standard power and more muscle overall. It can also tow more than the Tahoe, but the Tahoe does squeak by with a better payload capacity.

The Chevy Tahoe Z71 includes a two-speed transfer case, a skid-plate-styled bumper, and a skid plate. The adaptive magnetic suspension includes dampers and can lift the suspension from 8.0-inches to 10-inches

The Ford Expedition Timberline has a 10.6-inch ground clearance, two-speed transfer cars, underbody cladding, and the Trail Turn Assist system found in the Ford Bronco.

The 2022 Ford Expedition offers a 12.0-inch infotainment screen that can be upgraded to a 15.5-inch unit. The system is compatible with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Plus, the Expedition will gain Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving tech.

With the 2021 Chevy Tahoe, you get a standard 10.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both SUVs have tons of safety features, but the Expedition now offers road edge detection and speed sign recognition.

The new 2022 Expedition seems hard to beat, but both options deserve a test drive. We will keep you updated about the Expedition as we learn more.
