Ford is pitting the Bronco Sport small off-road SUV against some of the best-selling small SUVs on the market. Ford compared the Bronco Sport to the larger 2022 Honda CRV in a recent YouTube video. Time for 2022 Ford Bronco Sport vs. 2022 Honda CR-V.
The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport is a mini Bronco
The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport lives in the shadow of its older, larger sibling, the Ford Bronco. The Bronco Sport is essentially a mini Bronco that can’t drop its top the way that the Bronco does. This difference may be enough to deter some consumers from buying the Bronco Sport, but the subcompact SUV has plenty to offer.
The Bronco Sport is a decent off-road SUV, and it makes a fine daily driver as well, thanks to its handling and fuel economy. The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport starts at $28,265. It uses a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine to make 181 horsepower. The small off-road SUV achieves 25 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.
The base model Bronco Sport isn’t particularly impressive, but the Bronco Sport Badlands is practically a Bronco. The Badlands trim has 8.8 inches of ground clearance. It comes standard with Ford’s G.O.A.T. Terrain Management System. This system adapts the small SUV to different types of terrain by providing different driving modes.
The Bronco Sport Badlands also gets a more powerful four-cylinder engine that makes 250 horsepower. The Bronco Sport Badlands starts at $36,590.
The Honda CR-V is a small SUV staple
The CR-V nameplate is legendary in the small SUV space. The CR-V regularly competes with the popular Toyota RAV4 and other best-selling SUVs.
Most wouldn’t see the subcompact Bronco Sport as a Honda CR-V rival, but the Blue Oval produced an entire video dedicated to comparing the two vehicles. Ford argues that the Bronco Sport is the better buy despite the two vehicles having little in common to compare.
The 2022 Honda CR-V starts at just $26,400. It’s almost 10 inches longer than the Bronco Sport. The CR-V produces 190 horsepower using a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It achieves 28 miles per gallon in the city and 34 miles per gallon on the highway.
Car and Driver recommends the EX Hybrid trim because of its fuel economy and added creature comforts. The 2022 Honda CR-V EX Hybrid starts at $31,610. It achieves an amazing 40 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles on the highway.

The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport is very different from the 2022 Honda CR-V. This is an apples to oranges comparison, but Ford picked this battle, so let’s see it through!
The Bronco Sport is an amazing small off-road SUV, especially if you wanted a Bronco model but couldn’t buy one. If you have no desire to go off-roading, this small SUV is probably a pass because of its high starting price. The most capable Bronco Sport trim is much more expensive than the average subcompact SUV.
The average commuter should go with the 2022 Honda CR-V. The Bronco Sport is for those who want to take the road less traveled. It’s the better choice for that lifestyle, but as far as daily drivers go, the CR-V is more affordable and has earned its place among the greats as an older nameplate.
