Ford saw to it that the Bronco Sport couldn’t be dismissed for being the little Bronco. Consumer Reports gave it perfect marks for predicted reliability and predicted customer satisfaction. These two categories are two of the most important for CR. Without reliability and satisfaction, there isn’t much else to make a car worthwhile.

The 2022 Ford Bronco Sport offers two engine options, a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder making 181 hp and a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder making 245 hp. Both engines come with the same eight-speed automatic transmission that CR also seems to like.

The Ford Bronco Sport is an outdoorsy SUV that blends the ruggedness needed for the outdoors with a fairly refined driving profile. The suspension is said to be a bit choppy but not so much as to be uncomfortable or annoying.

Because the Bronco Sport is based on the Ford Escape, the handling is light and crisp for the segment. Overall it handled corners well, and only under extreme driving maneuvers did it exhibit some understeer.

  • 2022 Bronco Sport Big Bend starting at $28,980

Is the 2022 Subaru Forester a good car?

The 2022 Subaru Forester is the highest-ranking compact SUV on Consumer Reports. Subaru has been slowly perfecting its formula of rugged adventure mobile mixed with civilized daily drivers for decades. The Subaru Forester has won awards across the board.

The Forester is reliable, comfortable, good-looking, and affordable. That is a hard combo to compete with. Part of what makes Subaru work is the practicality of only having one engine option, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 182 hp. While this engine is efficient and reliable, it is slower than Christmas covered in molasses. However, it seems that few people buy a Forester for its speed.

What makes the Subaru Forester so good?

Although Subaru has some sporty models like the BRZ and WRX, the real bread and butter for Subaru is its practical approach to outdoor adventure. The 2022 Subaru Forester isn’t fancy or flashy. It is an intentional SUV made to serve its owner.

The interior is nice-looking but plain. All of the controls are laid out intuitively. There is also a comfortable ambiance in the cabin that feels effortless and honest. Overall the Subaru Forester is for you to enjoy, not to impress the neighbors.

The real reason most people buy a Subbie is for the AWD system. This is the engine that drives Subaru sales. Although the Forester won’t boulder with the Wranglers or even the Bronco Sport, for that matter, it will handle a rough track with the best of them. Its small size helps its off-road prowess with agility and ease.

Is the Ford Bronco Sport really that much better than the Subaru Forester?

These two SUVs are cut from the same cloth. Neither is meant to be the show stopper that will impress your friends. In fact, you might even catch a little grief for having these lightweight off-roaders. But, the jokes on them. For far less money and way better gas mileage, both of these SUVs will allow you to do more off-roading than most Wrangler owners do these days.

Although they are both great and cool in their own right, the Subaru Forester is hard to deny from a practical standpoint. However, the Bronco Sport is certainly cooler. The truth is, buying either one of these models is like shooting at a big target; it’s hard to miss.
