If you’re looking for a practical sedan that has enough muscle to pass almost any car on the road, then the 2022 Dodge Charger is an excellent choice. With seven different trim levels to choose from, the Charger can be purchased in a variety of engine and feature configurations to suit nearly any budget. But which Charger trim level offers buyers the most value?

The more modest 2022 Dodge Charger is the one to get

If you take a gander at the current lineup of Dodge Charger trim levels, you will likely be baffled as to which one is best for you. For 2022, the Charger starts at around $31,125 for the base SXT trim level, while spending $7,000 more will get you a livelier R/T model. If you need more power, then you can step up to the Scat Pack trim. But if that’s not enough, then you can shell out the big bucks for the insane Hellcat model, which starts at $73,225.

In case you didn’t notice, there is a huge $40,000 difference between the base model and the Hellcat, which may leave you wondering if the Scat Pack trim is the one to get. However, you may be surprised that the Charger R/T will technically make the most use of your hard-earned dollars. According to Car and Driver, the Charger R/T offers the most value in the lineup due to its “perfect mix of power and features.”

What does the Charger R/T come with?

If you stare at the 2022 Charger’s feature list long enough, you’ll start to realize that the main difference between the trim levels is the size of the engine under the hood. Every Charger has the same classic American styling and rear-drive configuration – except for the GT model – so you really can’t go wrong with any trim level that you choose. However, if you pick the Charger R/T, then you’ll be treated to a 5.7-liter V8 engine that pumps out 370 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque.

That’s over 70 hp and 100 lb-ft more than the 3.6-liter V6 engine that you’ll find in the lower SXT trim but about 100 less horsepower than the 6.4-liter V8 in the Scat Pack trim level. Keep in mind that the Scat Pack model does cost around $5,000 more than the R/T so that extra power does come at a price.

In addition to that potent engine, the Charger R/T also comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration.

The Charger R/T has an obtainable starting price

The most valuable Charger trim level wouldn’t be the most valuable if it weren’t for its price. As such, the Charger R/T starts at $38,125 (before destination), which is an obtainable price for most families. A choice of 14 different exterior colors, five different wheel types, and a bevy of decals and other accessories make this Charger trim level even more attractive. But keep in mind that they also increase the car’s price.

That being said, while you might spend more on a 2022 Dodge Charger than you would on a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, the good news is that you won’t be giving up any performance. And if you pick the R/T trim level, you’ll technically get the most value out of it.
