In the world of American muscle cars, the Dodge Challenger has remained a solid and strong option for decades. One of the main reasons the Challenger has been so successful is because of its inexppensive starting price tag, but Dodge does offer a lot of options. One of its most expensive options is the 2022 Dodge Challenger Jailbreak, so some folks are probably wondering if it’s worth its almost $90,000 price tag.

Here’s what the regular 2022 Dodge Challenger offers

The standard Challenger trim, the SXT, is a powerful muscle car at an affordable price of just over $30,000, which makes it comparable to regular midsize sedans. The big difference between the Challenger SXT and a Toyota Corolla is the Challenger’s standard powerful 3.6-liter V6 engine.

This engine gives the Dodge muscle car 303 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.2 seconds. That’ll allow the Challenger to be faster than pretty much every standard sedan, but it obviously won’t be as fast as a better-equipped sports car.

Regardless, Dodge has also given the Challenger quite a few practical features for a muscle car. For example, even a standard 2022 Challenger will get a 7.0-inch touch screen display, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a dual-zone climate control system. It’ll also have a decent amount of trunk space, and that standard V6 engine is surprisingly fuel-efficient with about 25 mpg combined.

What the 2022 Dodge Challenger Jailbreak offers at its price point

According to Car and Driver, the Jailbreak option costs about $1,000, but it’ll only be available on the top trims of the Challenger. As a result, folks who want the Challenger Jailbreak will need to spend roughly $85,000 on the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody first, and then pay an extra grand to get access to the Jailbreak package. As a result, if you’re interested in buying a Hellcat, then the Jailbreak package is probably going to be worth the extra grand.

That’s because, as its name implies, the Jailbreak package will unlock some previously locked features for the Dodge muscle car. Those locked features are mostly aesthetic options, such as seat options, exterior badging finishes, and seatbelt colors. In addition to those unlocked options, Dodge will also offer brand-new options for the Jailbreak.

The Jailbreak will retune the Challenger Hellcat’s already ridiculously powerful 6.2-liter supercharged V8. Instead of getting 797 hp like before, the Jailbreak will get 807 hp. This gain of 10 hp is unlikely to change the Challenger’s performance that much, but it’ll be good for bragging rights.

How the 2022 Dodge Challenger’s rivals compare

When it comes to power, few American muscle cars can compete with Dodge. As Car and Driver wrote, the Dodge Charger will be getting a Jailbreak version as well, so its power output will be the same as the Challenger Jailbreak’s. However, while other automakers have created muscle cars that get over 700 hp, few if any are a match for the Challenger Jailbreak’s over 800 hp.

While the Challenger is a cheaper car than the Charger, other muscle cars are still more affordable. The Mustang, for example, starts at $27,000, while the Camaro starts at $25,000. Even at those prices, both the standard Mustang and the standard Camaro offer similar horsepower ratings as the standard Challenger does.
