Four GM pickup truck prototypes were spied by GM Authority wearing camouflage

2022 Chevy Silverado and Corporate Cousin Spied in Camouflaged GM Pickup Caravan

Seeing a camouflaged, unreleased car is pretty exciting, but how about a whole caravan of them? Earlier this week, four pickups were spied rolling around in a posse. The gang of unreleased GM pickup trucks appears to be three different trim levels of the 2022 Chevy Silverado and one 2022 GMC Sierra 1500.  Three 2022 …

Three 2022 Chevy Silverado pickups and one 2022 GMC Sierra spied

According to GM Authority, The Chevrolet Silverado trims rolling around town were the 2022 Silverado Work Truck, 2022 Silverado LT Z71, and the 2022 Silverado Trail Boss ZR2, while the 2022 Sierra pictured is the top-trim Denali model.

Seeing camouflaged new models being tested out in the world is always fun, but really not all that rare. Seeing this many all hanging together is a bit cooler. The fact that they are testing all these different trim levels for the 2022 Chevy Silverado is exciting because these are likely the most exciting options packages coming for the Silverado.

The Silverado ZR2/Trail Boss is particularly exciting

There is a lot to unpack here, but the most exciting to many truck heads will be the Chevy Silverado ZR2 Prototype. But, wait, I thought this model wasn’t slotted to come out before late 2022 or 2023. If this is true, isn’t this a bit early for the prototype? As a result, GM Authority is saying they think this may not be the ZR2 after all. Frankly, it’s all a bit confusing.

The Chevy pickup truck spied by GM Authority has the same four-leaf suspension as the Trail Boss Prototype. The ZR2 is expected to have the MultiMatic DSSV dampers instead of the old leaf-spring suspension.

What about the other GM pickup truck prototypes?

Again, we rarely get to see so many prototypes all lined up like this. The GM pickup truck convoy serves as a solid visual comparison for the lineup of Silverados and the lone GMC Sierra 1500.

Although they all seem to be crew cabs, for the most part, they still all have a very different stance and overall shape. Of course, the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali is sitting up on its big, fancy chrome wheels, while the Chevy Silverado, sitting right next to it, has little, understated wheels and what looks to be a lower ride height.

The same theme continues to the other two GM pickup trucks. The 2022 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss ZR2 is sitting on tiny black wheels wearing some beefy tires ready for, well, the trail. Meanwhile, the Silverado LT Z71 is rocking something dead in the middle of them all.

Can you say GM pickup truck refresh?

Both the 2022 Chevy Silverado and the 2022 GMC Sierra are getting big refreshes for this upcoming model. Although they are camoed, the front ends look to have a bit of diversity between them. For instance, the Trail Boss and the Z71 have slightly different front fascia. The trail boss has a deleted lower air dam, making the ground clearance a bit better.

Both the GMC Sierra and the Chevy Silverado will be getting this hefty refresh. This refresh will introduce a new front and rear fascia design, new wheel designs, and a few new paint colors. Both model refreshes will also introduce totally reworked interiors, with a new dash, center stack, center console, fully digital gauge option, and the deletion of the column shifter. That is one hell of a refresh.
