Upset alert, the 2022 Chevy Colorado just flew past the 2022 Ford Ranger. According to the U.S. News, the Chevrolet Colorado is the second-best compact pickup truck for 2022 with a score of 7.8, and the Ranger is in fourth place with a 7.7 score.

The 2022 Honda Ridgeline is in first place, but it seems to be more popular with critics than drivers. Also, the 2022 GMC Canyon is in third place. This makes sense as it’s almost identical to the Colorado.

U.S. News ranks vehicles based on credible reviews and scores assigned by professional critics. Information is gathered from newspapers, magazines, and automotive websites.

Each truck receives a score based on its performance, braking, acceleration, interior, comfort, cargo space, ride quality, build quality, fuel economy, reliability ranking, safety scores, and awards.

Why does the 2022 Colorado rank ahead of the 2022 Ranger?

The 2022 Chevy Colorado ranks highly for having a class-leading tow rating of 7,700 lbs, a smooth ride with good handling, spacious, comfortable front seats, and an easy-to-use infotainment system.

Potential drawbacks with the Chevrolet Colorado include a disappointing cabin quality, underwhelming base engine, and a shortlist of standard driver features.

The 2022 Ford Ranger has a high ranking because of its potent turbocharged engine, composed handling, and stout towing and hauling capabilities. The Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs.

Reasons to avoid the Ranger include its cheap, dated interior and limited standard features. So, on paper, these trucks seem pretty similar so far. But the Colorado can tow more, and its seat comfort is mentioned.

The Ranger has a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The standard Colorado engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit with 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque.

You can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque or the 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine for 181 hp and 396 lb-ft of torque.

Does the Colorado or Ranger have better features?

You can upgrade the 2022 Chevy Colorado’s 7.0-inch touchscreen to an 8.0-inch display. With the 2022 Ford Ranger, you get a standard 8.0-inch infotainment system. Both trucks feature standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The tech in the Ranger is known for being a little more intuitive. Each truck offers a Wi-fi hotspot, and the Ranger has optional built-in navigation and 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

You get standard forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking with the Ranger. These features are available with the Colorado.

The Colorado ranks ahead of the Ford Ranger because it’s a little more comfortable and can tow more. However, the Ranger has more tech and more standard safety features. Soon these trucks will be redesigned for 2023, so the rankings will change.
