The Subaru Outback has had a cult following for years. Outdoor enthusiasts find the midsize crossover SUV the perfect vehicle for casual and off-the-beaten-path adventures.
On the road since 1994, the Outback offers unsurpassed versatility and comfort. Loaded with advanced safety features, the 2021 Subaru Outback is family-friendly with plenty of space.
Recently, the rugged SUV was among the nominees for a prestigious award. The Outback didn’t win first place, but it still offers plenty of features that make it a great value.
The Cars.com Best Value of 2021 award
Cars.com used a lengthy process to select its choice for its Best Value of 2021 award.
The publication stated that “any 2021 model regardless of when it was introduced or last updated providing we’ve evaluated it since major changes” was eligible for consideration.
Editors followed specific criteria to determine the best value in each segment. First, they looked at the average price of each vehicle to determine which was the most affordable. The data came from the asking prices listed on Cars.com’s comprehensive website.
The next step was to look at the warranty program, features, and performance ratings. The editors then selected the winner based on which model offered the best overall value for the money.
Last year, consumers had to face financial difficulties thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cars.com recognized that finding the most affordable option for the coming year was more important than ever.
The Subaru Outback lost to the Hyundai Venue
The Venue took first place for its vast array of standard safety features and budget-conscious technology. The starting price for the entry-level model is only $19,935, including the destination fee.
The infotainment system boasts an eight-inch touchscreen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Standard advanced features include automatic emergency braking, keyless entry, and lane-keep assist.
The compact crossover SUV has an estimated fuel economy rating of 31 mpg and includes a five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. The 2021 Hyundai Venue offers an impressive package for less than $20K, making it the winner of this year’s Cars.com Best Value award.
The 2021 Hyundai Tucson was another runner-up in the competition. For less than $25,000, the compact SUV offers plenty of active safety features and easy-to-use upgraded technology. Automatic headlights, an intuitive infotainment system, and a 60/40 split rear seat provide great value in a crowded segment.
The Subaru Outback is still a great value
That’s not to say the 2021 Subaru Outback isn’t a winner. Consumer Reports ranks it number one among all midsize SUVs and gives the sturdy vehicle an overall score of 86 out of 100. CR stated, “The Outback has a solid feel, with a very comfortable ride that outshines some luxury SUVs.”
Redesigned for the 2020 model year, the Subaru Outback includes the advanced Eyesight safety system, along with a plethora of impressive features. With an MSRP of $27,845, the base model costs considerably more than the Hyundai Venue’s entry-level model. Regardless, the Outback still offers great value for the money.
Standard adaptive LED headlights, seat belt reminders for all passengers, and a backseat warning alert are welcome standard features on the new Outback. Not only is this all-wheel-drive SUV’s cabin roomy, but it also offers plenty of cargo space.
Cars.com explains, “The Outback earns its chance at our award not by being the lowest-priced option in its class, but rather because it’s a well-executed, versatile family vehicle that delivers comfort and utility — and represents value of its type, as well.”
