MotorTrend says the 2021 Ford F-150 comes with a variety of engine options. The standard option is a 3.3L non-turbo V6. A twin-turbo 3.5L V6 is also an option, plus a hybrid powertrain. The EcoBoost engine is an added $2,595, but it tacks up 400 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. Depending on which pickup truck you choose, the F-150 can tow up to 14,000 pounds. The maximum payload capacity is noted to be 3,325 pounds.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra comes with a twin-turbo V6 engine too, but this comes standard. Toyota equipped the truck with 389 hp and 479 lb-ft, which is a respectable amount to start with. The new hybrid powertrain utilizes the new i-Force Max which produces 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque. As far as towing goes, the Tundra has a maximum towing capacity of up to 12,000 pounds. In addition, Toyota offers 1,940 pounds of maximum payload for this truck.

The 2021 Ford F-150 has an array of engine options that make it fit into a lot of situations. However, there’s something to be said about the simplicity of the Tundra.

The Toyota Tundra has fewer configuration options compared to the Ford F-150

The 2021 Ford F-150 has an overwhelming amount of trim levels and size options to choose from. It offers a regular single cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew. The bed sizes can be either 5.5 feet, 6.5 feet, or all the way up to 8.0 feet depending on the cab style. Then, there are seven different trim levels too. From XL, Platinum, and even the Ford F-150 Raptor truck, Ford has the right trim for every potential driver out there.

The Ford pickup truck is comfortable and simple to drive, even on the lower trim levels. It has enough options to choose from that finding a new or used version is easy enough. It also means you won’t have to wait around to get one.

The Toyota Tundra is a bit easier to sift through. There are two cab options, CrewMax or Double Cab. Depending on which one you choose, there are two bed sizes for both options. There are also five trim levels ranging from the Tundra SR up through the Platinum level. Plus, everyone knows about the Tundra TRD Pro trim level, which is off-road ready. While it doesn’t have as many configurations as the F-150, there is still enough variety to get the job done.

The Tundra is a powerful option, but its popularity might hold it back. People might have to wait to find the right configuration of the truck if it isn’t ordered from the factory. Toyota also added a composite bed that will keep your new truck looking like a new truck for years to come.

Choosing between a Ford truck and a Toyota truck

Toyota certainly makes reliable vehicles and has been stepping its game up in the pickup truck category recently. With that said, Ford just seems to inch ahead of the Tundra with the F-150 in most areas. Buyers who love Toyota won’t find any fatal flaws in the 2022 Tundra. Those who are used to the Ford F-150 way of life might expect more from the truck, which the automakers deliver on.

The new Tundra Capstone trim level is worth checking out for those who need a little bit of luxury. Otherwise, the Ford F-150 Raptor is a capable and off-road-ready truck. All in all, there is definitely a 2021 Ford F-150 for everyone. However, there is probably a 2022 Toyota Tundra that meets the needs of most potential buyers.
