It’s true, the 2021 Ford Bronco came out with a boom, but it failed to defeat its biggest rival, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. In fact, the Jeep Wrangler didn’t even break a sweat when the Ford Bronco came at it with full steam.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler is more popular than the 2021 Ford Bronco

The number for the 2021 Ford Bronco and 2021 Jeep Wrangler are in, and the competition doesn’t seem fair anymore. While the Ford Bronco wanted to take the Jeep Wrangler down a few notches, it was defeated by its own problems.

Perhaps the Bronco will live up to the hype as production and availability increase. Anyways, the Ford Bronco sold 35,000 units in the second half of 2021. The Ford Bronco Sport moved 108,000 units. If you combine those numbers, you get 143,192 Bronco units for the year.

The Jeep Wrangler sold over 204,000 units in 2021, and it moved 86,000 units in the second half of 2021. That more than doubles the amount of full-size Bronco sales. Jeep didn’t even have to inflate their numbers but combining Wrangler sales with another model.

Why is the Wrangler outselling the Bronco?

To be fair, the 2021 Ford Bronco has only been available since June. It’s a newcomer that’s still getting production on track while the 2021 Jeep Wrangler was ready to roll. Then the Bronco faced a few challenges.

For example, the Bronco struggled with delays due to the ongoing semiconductor chip shortage. But it wasn’t alone. Stellantis was short on chips as well. But the Jeep Wrangler still had its best year since 2018, as chips were hard to come by.

Then the Ford Bronco struggled with quality issues. Its soft top was prone to ripping and needed to be replaced. Also, their supply of hardtops and other items dwindled as other manufacturers faced the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

So, we aren’t saying that the Ford Bronco is bad or that the Jeep Wrangler was better. The Jeep Wrangler was just more accessible. But we have to also credit the Jeep Wrangler for doing a few fantastic things in 2021.

Why are people attracted to the 2021 Jeep Wrangler?

The 2021 Ford Bronco is versatile, highly capable, has a few different engine options, and even offers a manual transmission, like the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. But the Jeep Wrangler upped its game for 2021.

We got to see the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 emerge! Its 6.4-liter V8 engine cranks out 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.5 seconds, making it the fastest Wrangler.

The Ford Bronco offers a 2.6-liter V6 engine that cranks out 330 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque, which is a stout amount of power. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.6 seconds.

Also, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe arrived, and the Bronco doesn’t offer a hybrid variant yet. The Wrangler 4xe gets about 49 MPGe, which changes the game. Wranglers are known for being thirsty, but the 4xe will help you save at the pump.
