The 2021 Audi Q5 Is the Only Audi on This Consumer Reports List

After deciding on a luxury SUV among all the different types of vehicles you could choose from, the choice may not be clear as to which luxury SUV you should pick from there. Car manufacturers have significantly stepped up their luxury SUV game in recent years, bringing the best technology and innovations to their SUV models. Fortunately, top reviewing websites can help consumers get a better idea of which luxury SUV may be the best choice for them. Let’s get into one reviewing website’s list of top luxury SUVs, and why the 2021 Audi Q5, in particular, deserved a higher spot.

Consumer Reports’ list of top luxury SUVs

Earlier this year, Consumer Reports, a highly trusted reviewing website, came out with their list of the 10 Best Luxury SUVs You Can Buy Right Now. The luxury SUVs featured on this list vary widely in terms of starting price, and most models are within a few measly points of reaching the top spot. The luxury SUV class is highly competitive, and it’s hard to go wrong with any of the vehicles on this list.

The 2021 Buick Enclave came in at No. 1, thanks to its quiet and peaceful interior, intuitive infotainment system, and powerful engine. This vehicle probably would have ranked higher if it weren’t for its disappointingly average predicted reliability and owner satisfaction ratings. The 2021 Lexus NX finished at No. 4, despite its below-average predicted owner satisfaction rating. Overall though, this vehicle is an all-around excellent luxury SUV.

Coming in at No. 1 is the 2021 BMW X5, and the reviewer at Consumer Reports claims that it’s one of the best vehicles they have ever tested, period. That’s a difficult point to argue, as the cabin is luxurious, quiet, and comfortable, the infotainment system works wonderfully, and the standard safety features are well above average.

Only one Audi model made the list – the 2021 Audi Q5.

Consumer Reports is known for its detailed and thorough reviews, where they take as many factors of a vehicle into account as possible. After undergoing rigorous testing, the staff at Consumer Reports assign each vehicle an overall score. Aside from road tests, this score takes projected reliability and owner satisfaction from surveys into account, and they factor in the available safety features that come standard.

Recently, Consumer Reports also added an icon to signify that a vehicle is a Green Choice, meaning that it is among the most eco-friendly choices of vehicles on the market.

The Audi Q5 deserves a spot closer to the top

One of the most surprising parts of the entire list is the fact that the 2021 Audi Q5 finished in seventh place. The 2021 Audi Q5 has consistently been a top choice among critics for the luxury SUV class, and Consumer Reports themselves ranked it second in the luxury compact sport-utility vehicles sector for ratings and reliability. It scored an 83 on its road-test score, which was a full nine points higher than the 2021 Lexus NX that was placed at No. 4. Plus, it has a much zippier acceleration than the 2021 Lexus NX, despite having the same fuel efficiency – 24 MPG.

Consumer Reports rated the 2021 Audi Q5 highly on nearly everything, including its quiet interior, comfortable seating, smooth handling, and emergency braking. They didn’t view the slightly unintuitive controls too highly, and they state that the gear selector isn’t as smooth as expected, but many Audi loyalists would be disappointed to see these small factors leading to a number seven ranking among other luxury SUVs.

The Audi Q5 is an excellent vehicle overall, and although Consumer Reports didn’t say that it’s a bad vehicle by any means, it did seem to receive the short end of the stick on this list.
