The Ram 1500 is a great truck. It’s considered by many to be one of the best work trucks, and when equipped properly, it can become a very fuel-efficient truck as well. That said, the Ram 1500 does have its share of issues. Here are the most common complaints about the 2019 Ram 1500, according to Car Complaints.

Steering problems

One of the most common problems on the 2019 Ram 1500 was in regard to its steering. Most notably, for some reason or another, the steering wheel of the truck wouldn’t behave normally for some owners. The steering wheel would sometimes get stuck in a certain position and the driver would need to use a lot of force to make the wheel return to the center, according to Car Complaints.

This steering issue was a problem that occurred in both brand-new and more heavily driven 2019 Ram 1500s. It also affected multiple trims of the truck, including the more expensive and premium trims. On top of that, the power steering feature would sometimes fail too, but that might be related to the 2019 Ram 1500’s electrical issues.

It’s unknown how much it cost the owners to fix this issue, but Car Complaints did report one crash happening due to this problem.

Electrical problems

The other most common issue with the 2019 Ram 1500 is one that affects multiple systems of the truck. The parts of the truck that obviously require electricity, such as its rearview camera, its radio, and its other interior features, would sometimes simply stop working. Once again, this was an issue that was happening to brand-new 2019 Ram 1500s as well as more used ones.

Furthermore, other features of the truck that do need electricity suffered similar failures, according to Car Complaints. For instance, Car Complaints reported multiple issues with the 2019 Ram 1500’s engine and speed control systems, many of which can be traced back to the electrical system of the truck failing.

Car Complaints reported that multiple crashes and some fires were caused by these issues with the truck’s electrical systems. Just like the truck’s steering problems, it’s unknown how much money it cost the owners to fix these issues.

Interestingly, Car Complaints notes that the 2019 Ram seems to be a real problem year compared to the other model years of the Ram 1500. The Ram 1500 had very few complaints for its 2017 and 2018 model years, but the 2019 model year saw a huge spike of complaints. That said, the 2019 model year doesn’t have as many issues as the 2013 and 2014 model years of the Ram 1500 does.

Don’t be too worried though

While it may seem scary that a brand-new truck like the Ram 1500 is suffering from a lot of issues compared to its older model years, these issues are not that common and not that severe. Though obviously, some owners have blamed a crash or a fire on these issues, there doesn’t seem to be any fatal crashes.

On top of that, a positive of these issues coming up on a new truck is that if you get a warranty, then any issue you may encounter will almost definitely be covered by that warranty. Ram offers a 3 year/36,000 mile basic warranty package and a 5 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty package. These are decent warranty packages that should ensure that these common complaints about the 2019 Ram 1500 won’t affect your wallet in the long run.
