Finding a great used car can feel like a challenge—knowing where to start your search is key. Two of the best options among midsize sedans are the 2018 Accord and the Legacy. The 2018 Honda Accord was slightly more expensive than the 2018 Subaru Legacy when new. Honda’s midsize sedan started at $24,445, while Subaru’s all-wheel drive family sedan started at just $23,055. Pricing for used models will vary, but they will likely be similar in price.

The base 2018 Accord is more powerful than the entry-level 2018 Legacy

These two cars are comparable in power and performance, though the entry-level 2018 Accord has an advantage. Base Accord models are good for 192 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque from a standard 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. The 2018 Subaru Legacy, by comparison, only offers 175 horsepower from a standard 2.5-liter engine.

On higher grades, the 2018 Accord offers 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque from a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. The 2018 Legacy can be equipped with a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine good for 256 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. That’s slightly more than the Accord, but not by much.

Only the 2018 Subaru Legacy offers all-wheel drive

Standard all-wheel drive is one of U.S. News’ top “pro” factors for the used Subaru Legacy, along with a large cabin, comfortable seats, and impressive scores for safety and security. The Legacy is the only midsize sedan to offer all-wheel drive standard. It’s also one of the few cars in its class to offer AWD at all.

While other competitors in the class have begun to add AWD as an option, the 2018 Honda Accord is not one of them. Even today, no Accord is available with all-wheel drive. If you want more than front-wheel drive, the Legacy will be a better choice.

The 2018 Honda Accord gives you more cargo space than the 2018 Legacy

The Accord is slightly more convenient than the Legacy, with more cargo space in the trunk. While trunk space may not be at the forefront of your shopping needs, it can make all the difference when you need it. The 2018 Honda Accord offers 16.7 cubic feet of cargo area to the 2018 Legacy’s 15 cubic feet.

The 2018 model is one of the best used Honda Accord model years to buy, partly because of its smart interior. The Accord is slightly larger overall than the Legacy, so you’ll get a bit more room inside.

Which is better, the 2018 Legacy or Accord?

Both of these cars take the win in different categories. But, that’s because the 2018 Accord and Legacy tend to attract different audiences. The mild-mannered and smooth Honda Accord is great for families and commuting. The capable and affordable Subaru Legacy is beloved by those who take the road less traveled.

At the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with either car. But, the 2018 Accord will get you more base power, the potential for turbocharged fun, slightly more interior room, and some premium interior features. The 2018 Legacy delivers safety, security, capability, and reliability.
