Is Ram better than Silverado?

Based on the rankings put out by U.S. News for the best 2017 full-size pickup trucks, the Silverado 1500 did rank higher than the Ram 1500. This is based on a number of factors including critics rating, performance, interior, cost of ownership, safety, and reliability.

That means that no matter what truck you pick, it should be reliable. If you plan is to put 100,000 miles on it and tow around a small boat, both should be capable enough to handle it.

How reliable is the 2017 Ram 1500?

Ram was a driver favorite when it was released in 2017. As we approach 2022, the Ram 1500 is still a preferred truck for drivers. According to U.S. News, the Ram 1500 was the number three choice in full-size pickup trucks for 2017.

As far as trucks that ranked higher than the Ram 1500, the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 came in at number one. U.S. News gave the Silverado an 8.7 score.

With the 2017 Ram 1500 coming in at 8.4, this truck was a solid choice. One thing to note is that this year and model has nine open recalls for it. These recalls vary from the cruise control not canceling to the tailgate opening unexpectedly.

The Ram was a good choice, but it might not have been the best pickup truck released that year. U.S. News gave the Ram 1500 a 3.5 out of five stars overall for reliability.

How reliable is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

As noted previously, the Silverado 1500 was the number one full-size pickup truck for 2017. It offered a V8 engine with a very strong towing capacity, in addition to a quiet cabin.

Similar to the Ram 1500, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 does have a few safety recalls. One is related to installing a child’s safety seat incorrectly due to the manual. This was remedied by offering owners a new driver’s manual with proper instructions.

A recall from 2019 was in reference to the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM). The sensor could activate unexpectedly and cause the vehicle to pull to one side. This could cause a crash. The issue could be reprogrammed at the dealership for free.

U.S. News still gave the truck 4.5 stars out of five for overall reliability.

Which 2017 pickup truck is right for you?

Overall, these trucks are very similar. Perhaps the style of the Ram is better, or you find a Silverado with low miles. No matter the choice you make, both options have good safety features and engines.
