Buying a used car for your travels is a great decision, especially since it’s already gone through a significant drop in depreciation. Still, with so many used cars to pick from, which should you choose? U.S. News recently listed the 2015 Kia Rio as this year’s most reliable used car priced under $10,000. Its minimum average price will only cost about $9,359. That’s not too bad, considering its reliability score is 87/100.

The Kia Rio is available in your choice of a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback. It can drive through city traffic with ease thanks to its small size. It also gets great fuel economy ratings — which is always a huge plus!

The 2015 Kia Rio is a used car with plenty of features

The 2015 Kia Rio is available in three trim levels: base LX, EX, and top-of-the-line SX. Entry-level models come equipped with a four-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo with USB input, air conditioning, and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat.

Step up to the EX trim level, and you’ll get even more, including Bluetooth connectivity, power windows and doors, and cruise control. SX models come with more luxury-focused features, like a 7-inch touch screen UVO infotainment system, a sport-tuned suspension, paddle shifters, a rearview camera, and LED lights.

The Rio comes standard with a fuel-efficient engine

Under the hood is a 138-hp 1.6L four-cylinder engine. The entry-level model features a six-speed manual transmission, while the other Kia Rio trims come equipped with a six-speed automatic.

No matter which model you decide to go with, it will get an EPA estimated 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg out on the highway. Some EX models come equipped with the Idle Stop & Go feature. It will cut the engine whenever you’re waiting at a stoplight.

What cars did the 2015 Kia Rio beat?

The competition was tough, but the 2015 Rio was able to come out strong. The Rio had to outrank other subcompacts like the Mitsubishi Mirage, Chevy Spark, and the Chevy Sonic.

Surprisingly, with a minimum average price of $9,620 and a reliability score of 84/100, the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze claimed the number two spot on U.S. News’ list of the most reliable used cars under $10,00. The Kia Soul was third on the list, with an average price of $9,454 and a reliability score of 84/100.

Other models mentioned on the list? The 2014 Dodge Avenger, the 2014 Nissan Sentra, and the 2015 Nissan Versa (which is another subcompact car).

Is the 2015 Rio the best used car for you?

According to U.S News, “Combining a great reliability rating with a strong safety score and one of the most upscale and comfortable interiors in the class, the Kia Rio is an outstanding subcompact used car.”

If you are in the market for a small car with plenty of interior features, then yes, consider test driving the 2015 Kia Rio at your local dealership. It may not check everything off your shopping list, but it will certainly get you where you need to go, and beyond. Plus, it’s fuel-efficient, so you won’t have to spend too much to fill it up.
