Is the 2014 Dodge Dart a Good Used Car to Buy?

The 2014 Dodge Dart has good qualities. It features youthful styling, a spacious interior design, and top-notch safety ratings. On the other hand, you may find some not-so-good qualities. It’s not the best-performing or the most fuel-efficient car in its segment. The base model doesn’t have a long list of features, either.

However, if you’re familiar with the Dart, it’s an iconic nameplate that has been around since 1960. So, is a used model really worth buying? Let’s examine the pros and cons of choosing a 2014 Dodge Dart to help you decide.

Advantages of buying a 2014 Dodge Dart

Kelley Blue Book states that the interior of the 2014 Dodge Dart is spacious, well-designed, and loaded with soft-touch materials. It can comfortably seat five on cloth or leather upholstery. Higher trim levels come with more luxury-focused features, like heated front seats with a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a heated steering wheel.

The 2014 Dart will also keep you and your passengers out of harm’s way. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the 2014 Dart a Top Safety Pick, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the model five out of five stars. A rearview camera comes standard, but driver assistance features are also available. For example, Dodge Dart GT and Limited models come equipped with the Technology Group, which includes blind spot monitoring, rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors.

Why you should skip the 2014 Dodge Dart

According to U.S. News, “The base Dart is equipped with a 160-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is sluggish from a stop. Alternatively, the Dart Aero comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder with the same horsepower but offers more torque and better fuel economy.” There is, however, the Dart SXT that comes equipped with a 186-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The downside is that it could be slower than the performance-tuned versions of other competitors.

If you need a used car packed with standard features, you’ll want to skip the entry-level Dart SE. You’ll have your basics like air conditioning, power windows, 10 airbags, a tilt/telescoping steering column, and a folding rear seatback. SXT models come equipped with the more powerful 2.4-liter engine, aluminum-alloy wheels, a 60/40-split rear seat, and an upgraded audio system. Limited and GT models are standard with Nappa leather upholstery, a navigation system, full sport suspension, and 18-inch wheels. But remember, these models will cost you several thousands of dollars more.
