U.S. News compiled a list of the top used luxury small cars under $20,000 for 2023, and two used BMW models make the top 10. The 2015 2 Series ranks fourth, while the 2015 4 Series ties for seventh.

The 2015 2 Series snags the fourth position in U.S. News’ “Best Used Luxury Small Cars under $20K for 2023.” This used BMW has an above-average reliability rating, delivers an engaging experience behind the wheel, and boasts a high-quality interior. J.D. Power gives this model a reliability rating of 4/5.

According to the U.S. News, the average price for the 2015 BMW 2 Series ranges between $20,217 and $28,214, a bargain for its athletic handling, reliability, and safety ratings. Owners also report that the 2015 BMW 2 Series shines for its plush cabin and lively driving dynamics. However, some consumers ding the car for its cramped rear seats.

The 2015 BMW 4 Series boasts potent turbocharged engines

The 2015 2 Series isn’t the only used BMW that grabs a spot in the top 10. U.S. News lists the 2015 BMW 4 Series in seventh place. This car’s greatest value lies in its engaging driving experience, excellent fuel economy, and above-average reliability. It earned a 4/5 reliability rating from J.D Power, making it a solid used car. 

In addition, owners and critics note the 4 Series’ potent turbocharged engine options, dynamic handling, and ability to absorb road imperfections. But like the 2 Series, the 4 Series has a cramped back seat. Also, some owners have complained about electrical system problems.

Other top 10 used luxury cars under $20,000 

U.S. News also includes luxury cars from other brands on its list. The 2009 Audi A3 takes the top position. With an average used price of only $3,769 to $7,638, this compact car received praise for its solid all-around performance, impressive safety scores, and high-quality interior.

The 2013 Audi A4 and 2009 Lexus IS round out the top three. Owners of those two models say they appreciate the advanced features for the lower price points. Below the top three, three cars tie for the fourth position, and nine other models tie for seventh with the 2015 BMW 4 Series to close out the top 10.

Getting value from a used car can be challenging because its reliability decreases as the vehicle ages. However, the two used BMW models in U.S. News’ top 10 boast good reliability scores, making them solid picks. And the best part is the wallet-friendly price.
