Toyota is a popular automaker that makes a lot of great cars, and some of Toyota’s best models are sedans. On top of that, since Toyota makes cars that the regular person can afford, the Japanese automaker has many great sedans under $30,000. In fact, Toyota is responsible for making two of the best sedans at that price point.

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid is one of the best new small cars

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid adds commendable fuel economy to the popular compact car platform. Moreover, the main reason the Corolla Hybrid earns its praise is that it made improvements to the regular Corolla, which is already one of the automaker’s most popular cars. Specifically, TrueCar says the Corolla model gets as much as 50 mpg combined with its hybrid architecture. 

On top of that, the Toyota sedan is affordable, starting at about $23,000. The Japanese automaker also refreshed the car for the 2023 model year, and one of the differences is that the Corolla Hybrid now has more trim options. As a result, owners can upgrade the trim on their hybrid sedan, which will still cost less than $30,000.

2. The 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid is one of the best new midsize cars

Similarly, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is the best new midsize car right now. Like its smaller sibling, the Camry Hybrid snags top accolades because it improves on the non-hybridized Camry. Of course, the main improvement comes from the Camry Hybrid having a hybrid powertrain; it has over twice the combined fuel economy as the V6-powered trims.

Since the Camry Hybrid is a midsize sedan, it’ll cost more than the Corolla Hybrid, but it’ll still be under $30,000. The standard Camry Hybrid starts at about $28,000, and just like with the Corolla Hybrid, shoppers can upgrade to a higher trim and still spend less than $30,000. For example, the SE trim starts at about $29,500. Overall, the Camry Hybrid is a solid midsize car with many good features and few flaws.

A look at the specs of these two new Toyota cars

Under the hood, the Corolla Hybrid has a 1.8-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain paired with a CVT. It gets 134 hp, which is an improvement on the 2022 version’s output, but it actually has a worse fuel economy than before. It now gets 53 mpg city and 46 mpg highway at the Hybrid LE trim.

Meanwhile, the Camry Hybrid has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain paired with a CVT. Fortunately, its fuel economy didn’t get worse with the 2023 model year. It makes 208 hp and gets 51 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on highways, for 52 mpg combined. That said, there is another difference between the two Toyota’s powertrains. The smaller Toyota car can come with all-wheel drive, while the midsize Toyota doesn’t have that option.

Inside the cabin, both Toyota sedans have similar equipment. The Camry Hybrid starts with a 7-inch touch screen, but the Corolla Hybrid gets an 8-inch one. The Japanese auto giant also gave both cars a long list of smart safety features, including features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection.
