According to reviews, the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and overall, the Grand Cherokee isn’t all that different from the prior model year. This isn’t necessarily bad, as it means that many of the Grand Cherokee’s positive traits have remained the same, but that’s also the case regarding its negative traits. Here’s a look at the two things people hate about the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

1. The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee has very long braking distances

Two issues with the Grand Cherokee has to do with its braking distances, which are very long. This is not a massive issue, as the Jeep’s braking distances are not hugely different than similar SUVs in the segment, but it’s a noticeable difference. On dry surfaces, it took the Grand Cherokee 138 feet to come to a complete stop while traveling at 60 mph. On wet surfaces, it took the Jeep 145 feet to come to a complete stop. 

In addition to long braking distances, the Grand Cherokee also has some other minor issues with its brakes. This is because drivers will need to get used to the brake pedal, which doesn’t respond well. The initial press on the brake pedal won’t slow the Grand Cherokee down very much, but if you press down harder, the brakes will be stronger than you’d expect.

2. Some of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s controls are confusing

Another issue the Grand Cherokee continues to have is its controls, which many have described as “oddly designed.” The Grand Cherokee has a digital instrument cluster, giving many pop-up messages about reasonably common things. The problem is when those pop-ups happen, it shifts other stuff in the display around, which can be confusing for drivers, especially since the pop-ups are so common.

Jeep gave the Grand Cherokee some high-quality climate control buttons, but they are flawed in other ways. For example, the button that controls air flow is low, and it can be challenging for drivers or passengers to see it. Even though the Grand Cherokee has a lot of physical buttons, many functions will require the use of the touch screen. 

For example, the Grand Cherokee has a dual-zone climate control system. If folks want to sync the temperatures on that system, they will have to fiddle with the touch screen. This can be distracting, and it’s more confusing than necessary. Another confusing control has to do with the car’s cruise control. There are two buttons, one for regular cruise control and another for adaptive cruise control, which can confuse drivers.

Some things people like about the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Despite those flaws, the Grand Cherokee’s interior remains one of its strong suits. The Jeep SUV can seat five people, and they should be very comfortable inside the car, as the cabin is spacious. On top of that, the noise levels inside the cabin are great, and drivers even described its noise levels as having a “more upscale feel” compared to older versions of the Grand Cherokee.

All that spaciousness also means that, if folks wanted to, they could fit a lot of cargo in the Grand Cherokee. Lastly, the Grand Cherokee’s powertrain was described as “smooth.” According to Edmunds, the Jeep SUV starts with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 293 hp, and it’s mated to an eight-speed automatic. There’s also a hybrid option that gets 375 hp and a 5.7-liter V8 that gets 357 hp.
