Tesla seems unrivaled when it comes to electric vehicle production in the United States. The automaker and clean energy company is responsible for the majority of the new electric vehicle market share in America. It’s tough to be the best and even more difficult to remain the best in the eyes of consumers. Fisker may be a serious threat to the Tesla Model 3.

Tesla may currently be a more popular electric vehicle automaker than Fisker, but affordability plays a huge role in market dominance. One of the many reasons that the Toyota RAV4 is the most popular SUV in America is that it’s affordable. Tesla Models have been affordable at times thanks to federal electric vehicle tax credits, but their prices fluctuate.

Tesla vehicle prices have decreased and increased in short periods of time. Some base models have also completely sold out at times, leaving only expensive upper-level trim options. According to Car and Driver, the Fisker Pear EV will start at under $30,000. This will make it more affordable than any Tesla model on the market, including the Tesla Model 3. Federal electric vehicle tax incentives could make Fisker’s new EV even more affordable.

The Tesla Model 3 is more expensive than most of its newer rivals. The electric vehicle space will only get more competitive with time, and models like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Volkswagen ID. 4 are gaining steam. Tesla’s prices could hurt the company in the long run as more affordable alternatives become available.

Elon Musk says Tesla isn’t focused on electric vehicles this year

While most automakers are scrambling to produce the most popular electric vehicle, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has other plans. Tesla has announced that it will focus on fulfilling existing orders before producing any new electric vehicle for its lineup. This could be due to a lack of materials necessary for production as well as a long list of backed-up orders that consumers are waiting on.

Tesla also announced that the Tesla Bot is one of its main priorities going into 2022. Elon believes that the robotics industry could become even more impactful than the automotive industry over time. Tesla’s shift of focus from electric vehicles to robots could be offputting to some potential consumers. Factor in the large number of unfulfilled orders, and you get the perfect conditions for another automaker to swoop in and steal the top position from Tesla.

Fisker could become a much larger player in the electric vehicle space if its Fisker Pear EV were to become popular. If it delivers sufficient range, it could eventually become more popular than the Tesla Model 3.

The Tesla Model 3 may not be king of the hill for much longer

Unfortunately for the Tesla Model 3, there are plenty of other electric vehicles aside from the Fisker Pear EV that could potentially take its spot. The Volkswagen ID.4 is massively popular in Europe, and that popularity could soon have a global impact. The Ford Mustang Mach-E is winning plenty of awards, as well as the hearts of potential consumers.

The Tesla Model 3 could easily lose its position as one of the most popular electric vehicles in America. Will the Fisker Pear EV be the electric vehicle to take the throne from Tesla thanks to its affordable price?
