Sports cars and supercars are the types of vehicles that most people associate with very quick acceleration. However, some pickup trucks are fast, too. A 0-60 mph time of only three seconds is a remarkable feat, though. Only two production trucks have a three-second 0-60 acceleration time, and they’re both electric: the 2022 Rivian R1T and the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup.

The 2022 Rivian R1T EV pickup truck has made big waves in its short existence. It has earned the praise of consumers and critics alike, including the coveted MotorTrend Truck of the Year Award. A strength of the R1T is its mind-blowing performance, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of only 3.0 seconds.

This fast acceleration can mostly be credited to Rivian R1T’s quad-motor system, with an electric motor for each wheel. It has an incredible output of 835 horsepower and 908 lb-ft of torque. The high torque output of the R1T is especially pivotal for quick acceleration. Furthermore, the torque delivery of the R1T, like other electric vehicles, is instantaneous, which is also beneficial for acceleration. In comparison, it takes more time for gas engines to reach peak torque output.

The second production pickup truck that has a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.0 seconds is the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup. Considering the massive Hummer was the poster child for gas-guzzling excess in the 1990s and 2000s, it’s remarkable that GMC transformed it into a zero-emissions electric vehicle. On top of that, the GMC Hummer delivers phenomenal performance, including very quick acceleration.

The quick acceleration of the Hummer EV Pickup comes courtesy of its three electric motors, with one at the front and two at the rear. Its tri-motor system delivers a mighty output of 1,000 horsepower. GMC claims that the Hummer EV has a torque output of 11,500 lb-ft. However, that number is highly inflated, for GMC bases this on the torque-multiplying effect of its gear ratios. GMC insiders say that the real torque output of the Hummer EV is between 1,000 and 1,100 lb-ft, which is still very impressive nonetheless.

What pickup trucks have the fastest 0-60 mph acceleration time?

After the 2022 Rivian R1T and 2022 GMC Hummer EV, the next production pickup truck with the quickest 0-60 mph acceleration time is the all-electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Here are the pickup trucks with the fastest 0-60 mph acceleration times:

  1. Rivian R1T: 3.0 seconds
  2. GMC Hummer EV Pickup: 3.0 seconds
  3. Ford F-150 Lightning: 4.4 seconds
  4. Chevy Silverado EV: 4.5 seconds
  5. Ram 1500 TRX: 4.5 seconds
  6. Ford F-150 Raptor: 5.3 seconds
  7. Toyota Tundra: 6.2 seconds
  8. Ford Ranger: 6.1 seconds
  9. Hyundai Santa Cruz: 6.3 seconds
  10. Ford Maverick: 6.3 seconds

This 0-60 mph acceleration list will undoubtedly change as automakers release more electric pickup trucks, such as the Ram 1500 EV, GMC Sierra EV, and Tesla Cybertruck. Also, Ford will release high-performance F-150 Raptor R and Ranger Raptor trucks, which will undoubtedly deliver very quick acceleration as well.
