Nissan is a Japanese automaker that has a lot of good cars in its lineup, and like other Asian automakers, some Nissan models are very reliable. These Nissan vehicles also provide drivers with a strong balance of features and specs, and that makes them solid options in their segment. Here’s an overview of the two most reliable Nissan models in the 2022 model year according to a recent Consumer Reports survey.

A look at Consumer Reports’ new car reliability rankings

Every year Consumer Reports receives hundreds of thousands of surveys from owners, and the data from those surveys is how the site determines a car’s reliability rating. In 2022, the car critic received data from over 300,000 cars, and the data touched on 17 potential problem areas in those cars.

The car critic did something similar for car brands. According to Consumer Reports, “brands are ranked on average predicted reliability, based on CR member surveys.” Toyota, which is legendary for how reliable its cars are, came out on top as it not only had first place, but its luxury arm, Lexus, got second place. Nissan, meanwhile, ended up in the bottom half of the rankings, as it’s in 15th place out of the 24 brands.

Nissan has a lot of reliable models in its lineup, but its overall ranking was sunk by a few poorly performing models. The two Nissan models that were the most reliable, however, were the Altima and the Rogue.

A brief overview of the 2022 Nissan Altima

According to U.S. News, the Altima is a midsize sedan that is reliable and ranks well in many other areas. The Japanese automaker gave the Altima two engine options. It starts with a 2.5-liter turbo four-cylinder that gets 188 hp. The optional engine is a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder that gets 248 hp. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional. Both engine options are also paired to a CVT.

The Altima’s most economical configuration gets 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on highways, for 34 mpg combined. U.S. News called that “superb” for the segment. That being said, this Nissan sedan won’t be as fun to drive as its competitors. It will be a relaxing driving experience, however, as the midsize sedan has a spacious interior, and the seats are spacious as well.

Nissan gave the car a 7-inch touchscreen standard, and it’ll have a few standard smart safety features, including forward collision warning and automated emergency braking. Its trunk has a cargo capacity of 15.4 cu. ft., which is about standard for a midsize sedan. Currently, the Altima starts at about $25,000.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is a well-balanced and reliable SUV

Like the Altima, the Rogue is a reliable and well-balanced option. It competes in the compact SUV segment, and it starts at about $27,000. For the 2022 model year, the Japanese automaker gave the Rogue a brand-new engine. It’s a 1.5-liter three-cylinder that gets 201 hp, and it’s the Rogue’s only engine option. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is available. It’s also paired to a CVT.

That engine allows the compact SUV to get an estimated 30 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on highways, for 34 mpg combined. That’s a great fuel economy for the segment, and the Nissan SUV is also great on the inside.

The seats are spacious and comfortable, and the cargo area is spacious as well. The Rogue has a max cargo capacity of 74.1 cu. ft. Nissan gave it an 8-inch touchscreen standard, as well as several standard smart safety features.
