2 Gimmicky Features of the New Ram 1500 Revolution EV That Aren’t Very Useful
On the first day of CES 2023, Ram unveiled the new Ram 1500 Revolution EV. This is the first all-electric pickup truck from Ram, and it’s a revolutionary pickup. This incredible Ram EV truck brings several amazing features that could be extremely useful, but a couple that aren’t much more than gimmicks.
The Ram 1500 Revolution EV shows up and shows off

Suicide doors, massive 35-inch tires, a cool glass roof, a large infotainment display, and a powerful build are all part of the new EV Ram truck. This first-ever electric pickup from Ram takes top billing in the EV truck world. It comes with all the bells and whistles you could imagine. You’ll also see some features you wouldn’t have ever dreamed up.
CES 2023 had barely opened when Ram took the stage and removed the cover from this amazing new pickup. Car and Driver highlights many of the Revolution’s features. These include a power frunk, a charge port, flush door handles, side steps, and a rear step. These are all features expected to make it to production.
Some features might not find their way to the production version of this new Ram EV truck. We have two features that you might not want to see in your Ram EV truck
How useful is a truck-long tunnel in this Ram electric truck?

One of the highlighted features of the new Ram 1500 Revolution EV is a tunnel that runs the entire length of the truck. This tunnel passes through the frunk, firewall, cabin, midgate, and into the bed. The length of this tunnel is 18 feet, but it’s not very tall or wide.
MotorTrend offers rough measurements of this hole at one foot by one foot, although it’s more rectangular than square. That said, this small size doesn’t allow for several items long enough to pass through to be carried. While you could carry a few boards or pipes long enough to reach from the front to the rear of the truck, how often would you use this space?
Most working professionals that carry long materials regularly need more space. They either have a roof rack affixed to their truck for this purpose or carry them in a trailer. Can you imagine sitting next to pipes or boards passing from the front to the rear of the truck? Even though the pass-through tunnel on the new Ram EV truck is cool, it’s not very useful for most truck owners.
Do third-row jump seats make sense in the Ram 1500 Revolution EV?

The cabin area of this new Ram EV truck is about four inches longer than the regular Ram 1500 cabin. This allows a pair of small jump seats to be installed behind the second row to create a virtual third-row truck.
These jump seats might be useful, but uncomfortable. They are only large enough for a couple of small children when you take this truck out on the trails. In fact, these seats are so bare bones that most people would rather walk than sit in them.
Although the jump seats in the new EV Ram truck aren’t much more than a gimmick, there are two benefits to their presence. One benefit is these seats can be removed. They can then be set up on top of the tailgate to be a pair of folding chairs. This could be great for tailgating with your friends. This might make them useful to you. The second benefit is the added space behind the second row of seats. This is great for carrying some extra gear.
The new EV Ram truck is pretty cool and it’s packed with high-end, futuristic items that we hope will make it to market. That said, you might not want to see the pass-through tunnel or the jump seats in your electric Ram truck when it heads to production.
