2 Ford trucks are plagued by battery failure
Not everything goes as planned for Ford trucks as they transition to hybrid and fully electric powertrains. Two of the most popular trucks, big and small, in the lineup are struggling due to battery failure.
Two Ford trucks face reports of battery failure
One of the Ford trucks that’s currently facing claims of battery failure is the Ford Maverick Hybrid. The next Maverick Hybrid recall is looming due to a problem with a 12-volt battery in 2022 – 2024 models.
According to Ford Authority, Ford issues a technical service bulletin known as SSM 53087 because the battery may drain intermittently. This problem primarily occurs when the trucks are turned off.
Plus, the Maverick Hybrid has been recalled twice due to battery problems. The recalls are related to body and power train control modules. They may fail to detect a change in the 12-volt battery state of charge.
As a result, drivers can experience a loss of electrical accessories such as the hazard lights, and experience a loss of drive power. Ford technicians are instructed to recalibrate the body control and power train modules to fix the problem.

Also, if the truck experiences battery failure, technicians are instructed to test the 12-volt battery to see if it needs to be replaced. A software solution might be released in 2025.
The other truck with potential battery failure is the Ford F-150 Hybrid. In fact, drivers reported battery issues and failure so often, that the F-150 Hybrid became the least reliable truck.
Some drivers faced low battery warnings that prevented access to remote options like power-deploying running boards. Others faced the same warning as multiple warning lights went off on their dashboard, and their trucks wouldn’t shift out of neutral.
People charged their batteries, drove for hours, and left their trucks in park only to discover dead batteries when they returned. After having the battery replaced, some folks immediately faced the same issues. Failure often occurred before 3,000 miles were accrued on the odometer.
Ford trucks may have some improvements to make with hybrid powertrains.
