Police in Ventura, California, apprehended a motorcycle rider after he refused to stop for an officer following a traffic violation. The rider attempted to give the police the slip by hiding in a nearby river gorge. However, once police used a drone to find the EV motorcycle’s rider, they noticed that he was a 15-year-old boy.

A young California teen motorcycle rider resorted to hiding in a small river to lose the police following a pursuit

Desperate runners will do just about anything to get away from the police during a police. This kid figured his best bet was to ditch his electric motorcycle and seek refuge in a small river. However, his attempts proved futile after police officers used a drone to find the young boy.

The 15-year-old boy was riding his Talaria Sting, an electric motorcycle, near Telephone Road in Ventura. A police officer observed the young rider committing a traffic violation and attempted to stop him. However, the rider refused to relent, starting a pursuit between the police and the Sting EV motorbike.

Now, the Talaria Sting isn’t exactly a Yamaha R1 or even a larger electric application like the Can-Am Pulse. The Sting will top out at around 45 mph on the road, and with knobby off-road tires, it’s not as composed on asphalt as an EV street bike. As such, the young rider wasn’t going to get very far with a police cruiser on his tail.

Instead, the teen chose to leave the road and head into the Brown Barranca, a river gorge near Telephone Road. The pursuit stopped at the river gorge, where officers set up a perimeter. According to the Ventura Police Department, one of the pursuing officers was a drone operator.

“The officer launched his drone and was able to locate the suspect within a couple of minutes,” the department release read, per KTLA. Using the drone as a guide, Ventura police officers headed into the river gorge and found the rider.

It was then that the officers noticed the rider’s young age. “Once in custody, officers realized the suspect was a juvenile,” the department release said. Police charged the 15-year-old with felony reckless evading and driving without a license. However, due to his age, authorities released the boy into his parents’ care. They did, however, impound the EV motorcycle.

The drone helped police locate and arrest the teenage motorcyclist. Incidentally, many police and fire departments use drones equipped with high-quality cameras and FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) technology to aid in their duties.
