Recall alert: Over 135k Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs could catch on fire

Uh oh, there’s a new safety recall out for the Hyundai Santa Fe. Roughly 135,380 of these SUVs could burst into flames, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.

The recall includes models from 2024 and 2025. It does not include models that are equipped with the hybrid engine.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the fire risk is related to improper starter motor wiring. Some models may have an improperly installed B+ terminal cover on the starter motor assembly.

As a result, it may cause an electrical short during a crash. Because the termine is exposed, it could come into contact with the cooling fan assembly, igniting it on fire.

Owners at risk will be notified via mail by December 1, 2025. But you can also look up your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number on the NHTSA site.

If your Hyundai Santa Fe SUV is included in the recall, then you’ll have to visit a local dealership for service. Technicals will inspect and replace the starter motor terminal cover at no cost to owners.

Feel free to contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 with any questions that you may have. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 285. Hyundai is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem in the field.
