If money wasn’t an object, what kind of car would you buy? An incredibly fast supercar from Ferrari or Lamborghini? How about a classy luxury sedan, loaded with every feature imaginable? Or perhaps, a luxury SUV, which offers the best of both worlds — luxury and capability?
Well, if you have a six-figure budget burning a hole in your pocket, there are plenty of options on the market. Many of the world’s luxury automakers, like Mercedes, Porsche, BMW and others, have put a lot of resources and prowess into crafting some of the more refined and best-performing SUVs the world has ever seen. The only downside? They come with equally incredible prices.
So, what SUVs out there absolutely top the SUV market? We put together a list of them, so read on to see 10 of the most expensive production SUVs in the world. We took various trims and additions into account as well, though we made sure to include each model once (so you won’t see two variations of the Escalade, for example) for conciseness and simplicity’s sake.
10. Porsche Macan Turbo
We start the list with a price tag of $72,300, which is what it costs to bring home the Porsche Macan Turbo. If you’re looking for a classy, speedy SUV, this is it. The Macan Turbo can reach a terminal speed of 164 miles per hour, and sprint from 0-60 in just 4.6 seconds. That’s faster than many sports cars, for reference. Think of the Macan — a relatively new entry to the luxury SUV market — as a smaller version of Porsche’s Cayenne. Just a smaller, V6-equipped, 400 horsepower version.
9. BMW X6 xDrive50i
With a price of $72,900 BMW’s top-level luxury SUV, the X6 xDrive50i, squeezes its way onto our list. Boasting a 4.4-liter, BMW TwinPower Turbo technology V-8 engine, along with BMW’s intelligent all-wheel drive technology, this SUV is well worth the asking price. You’ll get 445 horsepower to go along with a slew of high-tech features, making this one of the pinnacles of German SUV engineering.
8. Cadillac Escalade ESV
It’s safe to say that Cadillac is making a comeback, and leading the way is the classic Escalade SUV. In particular, the Esacalade ESV tops the trim levels with a starting price of $72,970, but that price can soar northward with additional trims. The newest iterations of the Escalade ESV come with an incredibly luxurious interior, featuring shale leather seats and a variety of wood trim options. Under the hood, you get a 6.2-liter V8, capable of building up 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. That truly is luxury with utility.
7. Land Rover Range Rover Sport (Supercharged)
The supercharged Land Rover Range Rover Sport finds its way onto the list with a retail price of $79,995. Representing a considerable leap in price over its other trim levels, the Range Rover Sport is outfitted with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that is coupled with all-aluminum construction. This allows for incredible performance stats, like a 0-60 time of five seconds flat. Of course, you get all the other luxuries as well, including paddle shifters that make manipulating that 510 horsepower even more fun.
6. Lexus LX
Have $82,930 to spare? Then you can drive home in a brand-new Lexus LX. The LX can pack in up to eight passengers, and is built on the ever-capable and renowned Toyota Land Cruiser chassis. To haul all of those folks around, a 383-horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine comes in handy, which also provides more than 400 pound-feet of torque for towing. It’s not too bad on performance, either. The LX tops out at 137 miles per hour, and can jet to 60 miles per hour in 7.5 seconds.
5. Mercedes ML63 AMG
If there’s one thing Mercedes is really starting to specialize in, it’s expensive luxury SUVs. The ML63 AMG is no exception, as it starts with a price of $98,400. In exchange, you get an SUV that features a 5.5-liter AMG biturbo V8 engine, 518 horsepower and a 7-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. This SUV is loaded with every feature Mercedes could fit into it, including an all-inclusive infotainment system, aluminum paddle shifters and a surround-view system.
4. Mercedes GL63 AMG
This list isn’t through with Mercedes yet, as the GL63 AMG takes what the ML63 started with and pushes the envelope even further. Of course, with a price of $119,450, it had better. The GL63 features the same 5.5-liter AMG biturbo V8 as the ML63, but horsepower gets kicked up a notch to 550. An ECO start/stop system, AMG AIRMATIC sport suspension and sport exhaust system are just the tip of the iceberg in terms of features, and performance stats like a 4.8-second 0-60 time are sure to excite.
3. Porche Cayenne Turbo
We previously covered the Porsche Macan Turbo, and now it’s time to look at its bigger brother, the Cayenne Turbo. With a significant price jump over the Macan, the Cayenne Turbo tallies up at $113,600. But for that coin, you get some pretty insane performance numbers. 4.6 seconds from 0-60, a top speed of 173 miles per hour and 520 horsepower are the headliners, and they come courtesy of a 4.8-liter V8 engine. The Cayenne Turbo is, without a doubt, one of the fastest — and most expensive — SUVs on the market.
2. Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG
Jump up another $20,000 from the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and you can take home the Mercedes G63 AMG. This $137,150 monster looks more adept to take on the African savanna than to cruise around the city streets, but it is one of the most luxurious and expensive SUVs out there. Sticking with the classic 5.5-liter AMG biturbo V8 engine, the G63 can make 536 horsepower, and is surprisingly nimble with a 0-60 speed of 5.3 seconds. The aesthetics are cool, the performance is solid, and the price is sky-high.
1. Land Rover Autobiography Black LWB
On the top of the heap is the $185,030 Land Rover Autobiography Black LWB. With a long-winded name and an Everest-esque price tag, this Land Rover range-topper is the ultimate luxury SUV. Numerous variants are available, including a hybrid and supercharged version. They all can rocket to more than 130 miles per hour at top speed, and employ enough tech features and creature comforts to make your head spin. This is more than an SUV, it’s more like a Four Seasons suite on wheels. And it’s priced accordingly.
