There’s also 117 cubic feet of cargo space with the second- and third-row seats folded down, so you’ll have no issues packing up and hitting the road.

2. 2009 Chevrolet Equinox

According to U.S. News, “2009 marked the last year of the first generation of the Equinox. Buyers can take advantage of its age, with average prices at $6,280.” This SUV pumps out an impressive 264 hp, so they’re quick. The 2009 Chevy Equinox also gets 24 mpg on the highway.

3. 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Average price: $6,555

The 2009 Santa Fe compact crossover comes standard with USB ports to play music and charge your smartphone. This good cheap used SUV also boasts a 242-hp V6 engine and a 3,500-pound towing capacity when properly equipped.

4. 2009 Saturn Vue

2009 was a good year for Saturn SUVs. These models received good safety scores and had an upscale interior. Although the Vue lacks a generous cargo hold, the passenger area is spacious and comfortable.

5. 2010 Kia Sportage

The 2010 Kia Sportage provides 66.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. This SUV also offers four-wheel drive and makes 173 hp. J.D. Power gives it an excellent dependability score.

6. 2009 Mazda CX-7

There’s a lot to love about the 2009 Mazda CX-7. Pluses include a modern interior, a powerful 244-hp engine, and excellent handling. Its exterior design is eye-catching, too.

7. 2009 Mazda Tribute

The 2009 Mazda Tribute comes well-equipped with a seven-speaker stereo, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and auxiliary audio inputs. Plus, this model features a new six-speed automatic transmission and an optional hybrid powertrain. It’s a good cheap used SUV for buyers on a budget.

8. 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander

The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander can seat up to seven, so it’s great for growing families looking for an affordable SUV. In addition, it boasts a Fuse voice-controlled infotainment system and a Rockford Fosgate stereo.

9. 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan

The Volkswagen Tiguan debuted in 2009. It has strong safety ratings and provides plenty of headroom for taller passengers. The only downside is that J.D. Power rates the 2009 Tiguan below average in dependability.

10. 2009 Ford Escape

The 2009 Ford Escape has one of the early versions of the automaker’s Sync infotainment system. Depending on the trim level, you’ll get Bluetooth hands-free calling and navigation at a rock-bottom price. Some used models even pack an optional 240-hp V6 engine.
