One of the best midsize sedans on the market right now is the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid. However, it has stiff competition from the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid. Both cars are so great that, in all likelihood, drivers will be happy no matter which one they ultimately choose. That said, there is one way to know if you should buy the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid or the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid.
Here is the only way to know which midsize sedan is right for you
Like Consumer Reports wrote, the Camry Hybrid is too similar to the Accord Hybrid in many ways. Both are hybrid versions of great midsize sedans with a long and reliable history. They also look similar in terms of specs and have nearly identical fuel economy numbers. Regardless of their similarities, they are different cars.
One of the more tangible differences is cargo. The Accord Hybrid has more trunk space than the Camry but the Camry has a better transmission and easier-to-use controls than the Accord. Overall, if car shoppers don’t care about those small details, there’s really only one way to know which midsize sedan is the best: a test drive.
An overview of the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid
The Camry Hybrid is a solid option starting at about $28,000, representing a $2,000 premium on the base model. The Camry Hybrid’s powertrain is a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that works with an electric motor to get 208 hp and 149 lb-ft of torque. This hybrid powertrain is paired with a CVT and gets 47 mpg combined.
On the inside, the Camry has a comfortable interior, but it’s not going to feel too upscale. Toyota equipped the Camry Hybrid with Toyota Safety Sense, a suite of smart safety features including forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking. Toyota offers more options across various trim levels.
The LE Hybrid is the starter trim. Then there’s the SE Hybrid, which costs about $29,000. The XLE Hybrid goes for $32,000, and the XSE Hybrid starts at $33,000. These trims add more features, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, and additional smart safety features.
What the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid is all about
The Accord Hybrid is similar to the Camry even in price. It also starts at about $28,000. In terms of powertrain, the Accord Hybrid has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that works with two electric motors to get a combined 212 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque. It’s also paired with a CVT, and overall, the Honda gets 47 mpg combined.
On the inside, the Accord Hybrid is still similar to the Accord, and instead of Toyota Safety Suite, it has Honda Sensing, which is Honda’s suite of smart safety features. This gives the Accord access to similar safety systems that the Camry gets as standard. And just like the Camry, there are various trim levels available.
After the standard hybrid trim, there’s the Hybrid Sport, which starts at about $31,000. For $34,000, there’s the Hybrid EX-L, and then there’s Hybrid Touring trim which starts at $37,500.Likee the Camry, these top trims will give the Accord access to luxury features such as leather upholstery and a head-up display.
