For a long time, Mazda has been producing high-quality vehicles for its consumers, from sedans to crossovers and even trucks. One of its top models is the Mazda MX-5 Miata, a high-performance roadster with amazing features. You’d expect that a vehicle such as the Mazda Miata would easily be matched with a fellow Roadster or even a sports car, but the Jeep Wrangler is one of the greatest Mazda Miata alternatives.

Even though these two vehicles look nothing alike, the Wrangler has some outstanding features that prove it worthy of being a Mazda Miata alternative. Also, the Wrangler has an off-road advantage compared to the Miata, which gives it an advantage when the two models are pitted against each other.

Is the Mazda MX-5 Miata better than a Jeep Wrangler?

In addition to the Mazda Miata being fairly affordable, it’s a convertible sports car that comes with three trim options. The sports trim has a starting MSRP of $28,050 and is equipped with 16-inch metallic black alloy wheels. Mazda was also sure to include enhanced safety features, like a blind spot monitoring system, among other great qualities.

Next is the Club trim, which is equipped with a sport-tuned suspension, offering the full sports car experience. It has 17-inch metallic alloy wheels and an MSRP of $31,550. Lastly, there’s the Grand Touring trim, which is focused on the luxury feel as it comes with heated leather seats for an affordable price of $33,050.

Jeep has managed to personalize the Wrangler experience since it has 13 models tailored to suit the driver’s interests. It has an MSRP of $54,735 and is an all-wheel-drive vehicle. In some ways, the Jeep Wrangler is similar to the MX-5 Miata.

The Wrangler and Miata are both unique convertible rides

Even though the Mazda Miata and the Jeep Wrangler are of different vehicle types, they have several features in common. Firstly, both models are convertibles since the Wrangler’s roof is removable, as are its doors. Besides having unique designs, the Miata and the Wrangler are fairly affordable and offer a three-year warranty. The starting MSRP for an MX-5 Miata is $28,050, while on the other hand, a Jeep Wrangler has a starting MSRP of $34,865.

The Mazda Miata and the Jeep Wrangler have several distinctions

As much as the two vehicles share many characteristics, they differ significantly in a few sectors. Primarily, the most obvious difference is that the Mazda MX-5 Miata is a sports car while the Jeep Wrangler is an off-road SUV. Also, the Miata has two seats, while the Wrangler is a four-seater. When compared to the Wrangler, the Miata is relatively smaller. According to Edmunds, it has a wheelbase of 154.1 inches, while the Wrangler’s base covers 188.4 inches. The Miata also has a rear-wheel drivetrain, while the Wrangler has a four-wheel drive system.

In terms of performance, the Jeep Wrangler has an EPA combined fuel economy of 19 mpg, and it has a fuel capacity of 21.5 gallons. The Miata has a combined fuel economy of 29 mpg but can only hold 11.9 gallons of fuel. Lastly, while the maximum payload capacity for the Miata is 404 lbs, the Wrangler can carry up to 1,233 lbs of weight and tow a maximum of 3,500 lbs. Therefore, the Wrangler is a great alternative to the MX-5 Miata if you want some similarities in addition to off-road SUV capabilities.
