In recent years, many pickup trucks have placed a greater emphasis on luxury, resulting in very high prices. Rising inflation plays a part in the high prices of trucks as well. However, there is one very affordable truck. In fact, it’s the only new pickup truck that costs less than $20,000 — and it’s American: the first-ever 2022 Ford Maverick compact truck.

2022 Ford Maverick is the only pickup truck that costs less than $20,000

With a starting price of $19,995 MSRP, the 2022 Ford Maverick is the only pickup truck that costs less than $20,000 in the United States. This low price is not something that one would expect to find for a pickup truck, for the list of new cars priced under $20,000 mostly includes compact and subcompact cars.

There are some caveats about the pricing of the Maverick, though. The $19,995 MSRP is the starting price, which doesn’t include the cost of options, delivery fee, and taxes. Also, with the high inflation costs, many automakers are raising the prices of cars, so the price of the Maverick is subject to change. Plus, a dealership might charge a higher price.

Additionally, the $19,995 starting price is for the base-level Maverick XL trim. The XLT ($22,360 MSRP) and Lariat ($25,860 MSRP) trims costs a little more. However, these prices are still very affordable. Customers that buy the Ford Maverick will likely end up paying considerably less than the other new pickup trucks that are currently available.

The high fuel economy of the Maverick also adds to its affordability

Another thing that makes the American 2022 Ford Maverick an affordable pickup truck is its high fuel economy. The price of gas is at an all-time high, so an efficient truck like the Maverick translates to a great deal of savings at the gas pump.

With its standard hybrid powertrain, the Maverick gets an estimated gas mileage of up to 42 city/33 highway mpg. This high fuel economy makes the Maverick the most efficient truck currently available (not including electric trucks). The Maverick also offers a non-hybrid version with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine. It has an estimated gas mileage of up to 23 city/30 mpg.

What are the cheapest new pickup trucks available to buy in 2022?

Unsurprisingly, the cheapest new trucks available to buy in 2022 in America are compact and midsize trucks, while full-size trucks are more expensive. Following the 2022 Ford Maverick, the next cheapest trucks are the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz compact truck ($24,440 MSRP) and the 2022 Chevy Colorado midsize truck ($25,435 MSRP). The only new full-size pickup truck that costs less than $30,000 is the 2022 Ram 1500 Classic ($29,515 MSRP).

Here are the cheapest pickup trucks that you can buy in 2022. As noted earlier, many automakers are increasing the price of cars with the high inflation costs, so these prices and the ordering of this list are subject to change.

  1. Ford Maverick: $19,995 MSRP
